In the summer of 1950 my mother retrieved the last personal effects of John Henry as "Masonia" was in the process of being demolished. The large steamer-trunk contained 27 text books from William & Mary College, newspaper clippings, notes, letters including one addressed to "Col. Wm. Byars near Abington, Va." (undated) and more. On the reverse side of one of the newspaper clippings is an "ad" for a slave auction. I look forward to your responce. Since I have no military specifics, or political, any clue as to who John Henry served with and or under would be a major step.
