Is there no other source for land records in Washington County? I have asked before and I was told that they were burned during the Civil War. I am trying to establish a relationship (real proof) that John Porterfield (1751-1832) is the son of John Porterfield (1724-1788). DAR does not accept the genealogy, THE PORTERFIELDS, as proof. The older John's will made in Cumberland Co., PA does not mention his son John. Any help will be appreciated. Annette

Annette: I am having the same problem. I need to connect to my Whitaker line and my ggg-grandmother was not listed in the will. We may have to order reels of land records from the FHC. There is a list of land patents microfilm #'s on the Library of Virginia website. And I just discovered a few images they have available when I went after the link to give you in this email.
