    1. Re: [VAWASHIN] Ann CROW, born<1822>, Washington County, Virginia
    2. Ann HUTTON (dau. of Arthur Dixon HUTTON & Eleanor SNODGRASS) and Edward C. CROW (son of James & Jane CROW) were married in WC VA on 18 Sep 1839 by Alexander McEWEN, who succeeded Rev. Edward CRAWFORD as pastor of Glade Spring Presbyterian Church. [Source for marriage: "The Marriages of Washington County, Virginia, 1781-1853," (1993), page 13, by D.E. BROWN]. Arthur Dixon HUTTON (b. 17 Jan 1800 in VA, d. 16 Feb 1875 in WC VA, son of James HUTTON & Isabel ORR) and Eleanor SNODGRASS (b. 22 Jun 1802 in VA, d. 04 Feb 1880 in VA, dau. of Joseph SNODGRASS and Ann HUTTON) were married in WC VA on 23 Dec 1820 by Rev. Alexander McEWEN. [Source for marriage: D.E. BROWN, page 29]. James HUTTON (b. 11 Dec 1766, d. 1820 in WC VA, son of John HUTTON & Jane DICKSON) and Isabel ORR (d. before 1820, dau. of Arthur ORR, the Elder) were married 17 Jan 1797 in WC VA by Rev. Edward CRAWFORD. [Source for marriage: D.E. BROWN, page 27]. There is a one column article (# 289) on James & Jane CROW on page 124 of "Families of Washington County and Bristol, Virginia, 1776-1996," (1996), Compilied by the Holston Territory Genealogical Society. In this same book on pages 266 & 267, is a full page article (# 717) on Arthur ORR, the Elder. According to the CROW article on page 124, James CROW was a son of Walter CROW who moved to Augusta Co., VA in 1765 from Maryland by way of Delaware. Arthur ORR, the Elder (son of Margaret ORR) lived in Manor Township, Lancaster Co., PA; Tyrone Township, York (now Adams) Co., PA; and in WC VA one tract above the north side of the Middle Fork of the Holston River and east of Cedar Creek. Wm. KENNEDY (assignee of James McCUTCHEN) was issued a 300 acre Land Grant dated 22 Jun 1786 (VA Land Grant Book 3:129-130). KENNEDY deeded the 300 acre tract to James CROW on 11 Sep 1787 (WC Deed Book 1:59]. Adjoining neighbors to the 300 acre deed were Francis BERRY on the S.W., John REID on the N.E., and Samuel HENRY on the East. Fifteen Mile Creek S.E. of Abingdon meandered through the 300 acres and Watauga Road also runs through the tract which lay S.W. of the intersection of Watauga Road and U.S. Route 58. That intersection lies in what was once a 10 Oct 1799 Land Grant for Andrew Russell that contained 800 acres, part of which was a former Land Grant for James REID. James CROW is shown on RUSSELL's 800 acre survey as being an adjoining neighbor on the S.W. You can view a small plot of James CROW's 300 acre tract by going to the BERRY Website at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~berry/newupload/figures/Fig22.html Tract # 24 (James McCUTCHEN) was the tract that was later Wm. KENNEDY, then James CROW's 300 acres. Tract # 27 (John REID) was assorbed by Andrew RUSSELL's 800 acre Land Grant and the lower S.E. part of that tract is the Watauga Rd/Route 58 intersection. Addition info on James CROW can be found on pages 28 & 29 of Nanci C. KING's "Places In Time, Volume III, South of Abingdon to the Holston," (1997). Nanci also has a picture of the James CROW/John KELLER house in the back section of her book (no page #). That house is on the original 300 acres. WC Deed Book 7:274 has Jane CROW's 100 acre dower land (02 Nov 1820). This "stair step" looking survey was the lower part of the 300 acre tract above. A hugh wealth of info on most anyone named SNODGRASS can be found at the SNODGRASS Source Book website at: http://www.source-books.snodgrass-clan.com/allbooks.txt Bob Ford
