Surnames: LINDSEY NEWLAND MINNICK SPIORS Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/GBC.2ACE/123.136.1.1 Message Board Post: Looking for information about the tannery run by an unknown Lindsey and L.C. Newland prior to Civil War. I would like to know which Lindsey this would be, and any other information about this business. What is known is the property was owned by Geo. V. Litchfield and was located east end of Abingdon where Main St. crosses a creek between Tanner St. and Deadmore St. LC Newland lived in the house just north of the tannery on Valley St (this is probably Leslie's Lewellyn C. Newland). Sorry, Leslie, I could not find any Minnick's or Spior's in this reference. Reference Historical Soc of WC VA, Publications Series II, No.9, July 1971. p. 3, 12, 21 Homes and buildings and people in Abingdon from the era just before the Civil War was described in abt 1910 by Lewis Thomson Cosby, in "Remembrances of Abingdon." This makes for interesting reading and has a map with the locations of all the properties described. And that's that. Katie
