I am researching the George Teater family that came into Kentucky from Va. through the Cumberland Mountains in 1779. I understand that he had been appointed "ensign" in the Washington Co., Va. militia prior to his emigration to Kentucky. I am trying to establish his home prior to coming to Kentucky. I believe he might be the same George Teater that settled for a while on "Crab creek, a branch of New River." This land was later sold to Howard Heavin. Can anyone help me locate this "Crab Creek" and tell me precisely where it is located? More importantly, I am seeking references and documentation any Teater (Teter, Teeter, Teetor, or other related spellings) families in Virginia prior to 1780. Especially, in the Washington Co., Va. area. Thanks for any help.
