They were in the 1860 Census owning real estate valued at $500. Children listed were Mary, Jacob, Susan, and Elizabeth. They were listed as family and dwelling number 337. Bazil and Elizabeth Talbert and family were the next entry, family/dwelling number next to 338. Thomas was not in the 1870 Census; it is concluded he died after 1868 as supported by of the deed cited below. I checked for birth and death records through late 1950's and found no records. Also checked 1970 and 1880 census for Roane, Jackson, Kanawah, Putnam, and Mason Counties, WV; no records. I am left to assume that both moved back to South Carolina or perhaps to the Saltville area. It is interesting to note that Martha and her mother were married by the same minister, John Hively.
