Co. historical society has a limited number of old Abingdon, VA newspapers on microfilm, although I'm not sure about the year 1922. The Bristol Herald Courier is available on microfilm from about 1909 forward, at both the King College (Bristol) and ETSU libraries. Note: Neither college does a good job of maintaining their microfilm readers, so it's hit or miss whether they'll have one functional.
