Willbook, Washington County, Virginia: In the name of God Amen. I James Allen of Washington county and State of Virginia, being weak in body, but possessing my ordinary mind, and as I trust of dispensing memory, and considering the uncertainty of natural life and wishing to dispose of such wordly estate as it has pleased a kind providence to bless me with, do make and ordain this my last will and testament in the manner following to wit: Item 1st: After paying all my just debts, funeral charges, and the expense of settline my estate, I will as follows. Item 2nd: I will and bequeath to my wife Mariah my plantation during her life time, with all my household and kitchen furniture, also all my horses, cattle, sheep, and hogs, grain and meat and farming implements, to dispose of as she may think proper when she is done with it. Item 3rd: My land at the death of my wife Mariah I will that it be equally divided and Thomas Gill have one half on the side that he has built a farm, and the other half I will to my three daughters viz: Becky, Ellen, and Ann to be equally divided between then. Item 4th: I will that my two daughters that is married to wit: Polly Larimer and Sally Owens have each ten dollars. Item 5th: I will to my son David Carter Gill my land warrant that I am to receive for services in the war when it comes to hand. And lastly I ordain and appoint Thomas Gill executor of this my last will and testament, making all former wills by me (void?). In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal this 10th day of December 1853. his Signed in the James X Allen Sr. presence of: mark James E. Kelly William Meek James B. Lester At court held for Washington county the 24th day of December 1855. The last will and testament of James Allen now deceased was exhibited in court and found by the oath of James E. Kelly and James B. Lester two of the subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded. And on the motion of Thomas Gill the executor therein named who took the oath of an executor for signed by him and entered and acknowledged his ? in the sum of 600 dollars with Andrew E.
