Roots Web have a site for Steele by Judith Steele There was a Phebe McMeans born in 1816 in Tazewell who married Edmund Steele. That was who put Phebe into the Elihu McMeans family.Since Edmund was born in 1812 they were of similar age and both born in Tazewell. Therefore our Phoebe McMeans, who was born in 1829 was not the daughter of Elihu McMeans. I think that she was a grand daughter of Anthony McMeans and Phebe Patten, but I can't find the connection. We know our Phebe was born in Grayson Co. and remained there until she left with Lorenzo Dow in 1844 for Tennessee where they were married and then proceeded on to Washington Co. VA. Could her family been in Tennessee? Lorenzo Dow is consistently in the census for Charles Cole in Grayson Co. and clearly he was there when he left with Phebe in 1844.
