Kegley, page 93: "George ALLEN, one farm in the Forks of Holston, joining James ALLEN, Alexander ROBERTSON and William ROBERTSON, 180 acres and 50 acres, joining the above, one log dwelling house, one log barn and three log "cabbins," valued at $1150." "James ALLEN, one small farm in the Forks of Holston, joining George ALLEN and the estate of Andrew McKEE, 150 acres having thereon two small "cabbins," valued at $750." "Supplement to Southwest Virginia Tax Assessments, 1815, Grayson, Lee, Scott, Russell, Washington, & Wythe Counties," (1992), by Mary B. Kegley, page 17: Page 17 -- "John MOOR, son of William of Kentucky, one farm in the folks [Forks] of Helstun [Holston], joining William EDMONDSON, Alexander ROBERTSON, and George ALLEN, 359 acres having thereon 2 log "cabbins," and 1 old log barn, valued at $1800." Page 21 -- "David ROBERTSON, Senr., one small improvement, joining James ALLEN and the estate of Andrew McKEE with two small "cabbins," containing 53 acres, valued at $200." - - - - - - - - - - James ALLEN and Martha McCALL were married in Washington Co., VA on 20 Jan 1824 by Alexander McEWEN, a minister who succeeded Rev. Edward CRAWFORD as pastor of Glade Spring Presbyterian Church in 1816. He was also stated supply at Rock Spring Presbyterian Church. James ALLEN and Mariah GILL were married in Washington Co., VA on 05 May 1850 by Andrew PATTERSON, a Baptist minister who may have been a pastor at Rush Creek Church in Wideners Valley. [D.E. BROWN, pages 2 & 85]. Martha McCALL was the dau. of John McCALL & Martha ORR of Baker (now called Hutton) Creek in eastern Washington County. BATTERSON of Pittsylvania County, VA might be of interest as the adjoining neighbors include George ALLEN and DAUGHERTY (no first name). 434 acres lying on the waters of Allens Creek. Other neighbors were John BALLENGER/BALLINGER, HENDERSON, John BUCKLEY. Also a 1780 VA Patent (Book E: 661-662) for Wm. ALLEN Pittsylvania County, VA for 190 acres on Allens Creek.
