[Source: VA Land Grant Book 11:246-247]. The 160 acres was located on two boundary lines of Capt. James THOMPSON’s elongated 2,600 acre "Killmacknonan" tract that extended from the old 122 acre original Ebbing Spring church tract (not to be confused with the Ebbing Spring Church on Route 91) eastward across Hutton Creek (old Baker Creek), northeastward up the Middle Fork of the Holston River and northward to Walker Mountain. The 160 acres was located somewhere east of Hutton Creek (old Baker Creek), south of Route 11 & U.S. 81, and north of the Middle Fork of the Holston River. THOMPSON bordered STARNS’ western and southern boundary lines. Joseph MEEK’s 400 acre tract (that he bought from Jonathan & Hannah CUNNINGHAM on 01 Oct 1787) bordered STARNS’ 160 acres on the north. Zachariah SHUGART was issued a 53 acre Land Grant on the eastern border of the 160 acres on 26 Aug 1815. The survey that was done earlier for the Land Grant still shows "CARTER" as the adjoining neighbor on the east (VA Land Grant Book 65:351-352).
