Description: 238 acres on both sides of Mill Creek on the south side of the South Fork of the Holstein River adjoining Esther RAFFERTY, David PHILIPS & John JONES. Source: VA Land Office Grant Book 33:399-400. There were various creeks named "Mill Creek" in Washington County. The above Mill Creek is located on the south side of the South Fork of the Holston River near the Smyth County line. The northern most corner of LATTURE's tract was near the bank of the South Fork of the Holston River. Hermon LATTURE's neighbors were: Esther RAFFERTY on the east (1785 Land Grant for 400 acres), David PHILLIPS on the east below Esther RAFFERTY (1786 Land Grant for 100 acres), John JONES on the southwest (1786 Land Grant for 300 acres). John JONES on the west (1801 Land Grant for 200 acres), Adam SARBROUGH [also SURBER] on the north (1801 Land Grant for 160 acres). Also John BOWLES had a 1785 Land Grant for 237 acres that was on the north side of the South Fork of the Holston River with boundary lines on the river and BOWLES tract was near Adam SARBROUGH's/SURBER's 160 acre tract. For John BOWLES tract see VA Land Office Grant Book Q:377-379. On 01 Mar 1798, Hermon LATTURE & Agnes his wife sold 102 acres on Mill Creek, a branch of the South Fork of the Holston River to Jonathan PHILLIPS. Adjacent Esther RAFFERTY, David PHILLIPS & John JONES. Source: WC Deed Book 2:101-102. The 102 acre tract was the southern part of LATTURE's 238 acre Land Grant tract.
