I just subscribed to the list, and this is my first message. Hi everybody! I'm descended from John Scott (1734-1803), thru his son John Wilson Scott (1763-1847). I was last in Washington county in April of last year, and visited Old Glade Spring cemetery. If anyone is doing research on this cemetery (or is considering cleaning it up or resoring parts of it), you should know what I saw when I was there: the southwest corner of the cemetery slopes down at a sharp angle (so much so that you can't see it from the church, and vice versa). Before we left, I made a point of going down that hill to see what was there. What I found was a bunch of broken or simply dislocated tombstones. They were stacked in piles 10 high in spots, some leaning against trees, some simply sitting in multiple pieces. It seemed very out of place considering how neat & clean the rest of the grounds were. So if you visit Old Glade Springs Cemetery, make sure to go down the hill, if you can't find a particular stone.
