While looking for a definition of some items found on an estate inventory in 1823, I found this really neat site. It has inventories for over 300 estates from MD & VA. The site is Gunston Hall, originally owned by George Mason. The period of time for the estates featured are during the same period Mason was alive. It does not feature every estate inventory from the following locales, only selected ones but they may help someone and they are interesting. Here is what areas are covered as quoted from the site: "Using microfilm of original court records from Fairfax, Prince William and Stafford counties in Virginia and Charles and Prince George's counties in Maryland, probate inventories were selected according to predetermined criteria. Considered to be of particular importance, these counties reflect jurisdictions in which George Mason owned land and/or was known to have transacted business. In addition to the counties cited, a number of room-by-room inventories are included from the following jurisdictions: In Virginia: the cities of Norfolk and Fredericksburg and the counties of James City, Elizabeth City, Lancaster, Surrey, Richmond, Frederick, Charles City, Spotsylvania, Middlesex, Westmoreland and York. In Maryland: Anne Arundel County and Annapolis." The URL for the Probate Inventories is: http://www.gunstonhall.org/probate/inventory.htm The main URL for the Gunston Hall site is: http://www.gunstonhall.org Hope this helps someone, Billy
