Thursey married a Parrigin and then she married Thomas Null. Thursey apparently died between 1910 and 1920. Thomas is living in Glade Spring, Va (Washington County) in 1920, with Herb and Bessie Clark Null. I am searching for the maiden name of John's wife Thursa. Have you come across that information. Much of my family info is on my website www.madeofcotton.com. I also have a private Privett family genogram that is not yet linked to my website because I am trying to verify some information first. That genogram can be found at www.madeofcotton.com/privette/prevette_privette_genogram.pdf Not all the links work because I haven't uploaded all the files to the site yet. Joseph HAYS & Jenny COLVILL's 01 Jun 1797 marriage record is from "The Marriages of Washington Co., VA, 1781-1853" (1993), by D.E. BROWN, page 27. They were married by Rev. Charles CUMMINGS, a Presbyterian minister that served both Sinking Spring (in Abingdon) and Ebbing Spring (near the Middle Fork of the Holston River) congregations in Washington County. On 29 Oct 1796, David CRAIG & Martha his wife of the county of Northumberland, PA sold to Joseph HAYS of Washington County, VA, for $65.50 -- three lots (#'s 12, 13 & 21) near the town of Abingdon containing one quarter acre each. Deed recorded 02 May 1797. WC DB A:180-182. [Source: "Washington County, Virginia District Court Deed Book A, 1789-1801" (2004), by Thomas & Jane COLLEY, pages 48-49]. On 17 Apr 1797, Joseph HAYS sold unto Wm. KING of Washington County, Virginia "one negro boy named George" for $300.00. Recorded 02 May 1797. WC DB A:132. [Source: "Washington County, Virginia District Court Deed Book A, 1789-1801" (2004), by Thomas & Jane COLLEY, pages 36-37]. On 30 Sep 1797, Joseph HAYS & Jenny his wife of the Town of Abingdon sold to John GOLD, for $28.00 -- lot # 13 (one quarter acre) near the Town of Abingdon. Witnesses: Wm. GREENAWAY & David HAYS. Deed recorded o7 Oct 1797. WC DB A:136. [Source: "Washington County, Virginia District Court Deed Book A, 1789-1801" (2004), by Thomas & Jane COLLEY, page 37]. 02 Oct 1800, "Know all men by these presents that I Joseph HAYS of Washington County & State of Virginia for diverse good causes me hereunto moving made, ordained, authorized & appointed & by these presents do make ... David HAYS of the County of Washington & State of Virginia my true and lawful Attorney ... whereof I have set my hand and seal ... Witness: C. WATKINS. Recorded: At a District Court continued and held at Washington Courthouse the 6th October 1800." WC DB A:518. [Source: "Washington County, Virginia District Court Deed Book A, 1789-1801" (2004), by Thomas & Jane COLLEY, page 157]. For transactions involving David HAYS & Esther/Hetty his wife, see WC DB A:456-461 & 466-469. David HAYS & Hetty MONTGOMERY were married 04 Sep 1800 in WC VA by Rev. Charles CUMMINGS. [Source: "The Marriages of Washington Co., VA, 1781-1853" (1993), by D.E. BROWN, page 27]. (Note that D. E. Brown has Hetty's name as Holly which is incorrect). Hetty was the daughter of Robert MONTGOMERY (see WC DB B:387-388 for Robert MONTGOMERY's will). Source: "Washington County, Virginia District Court Deed Book B, 1801-1840" (2004), by Thomas & Jane COLLEY, pages 169-170. WC DB 2 has various transactions involving Joseph HAYS and his wife Jane/Jenny including the following: Pages 70-71 -- 15 May 1798 -- Joseph HAYS & Jenny his wife to Wm. KING, 32 acres, part of the estate of Andrew COLVILLE deceased. Hi Stephanie, To me, that looks like a typo. Look at the page below. http://books.google.com/books?id=P-nw1hjzKSQC&printsec=frontcover&dq=joseph+hays+jenny+virginia#PPA1263,M1 I have another book which gives Joseph and Jenny's marriage date as June 1, 1797. The author states that there are no marriages recorded before 1781 and very few before 1785. The records have apparently been lost. It is frustrating, isn't it? Always a challenge. Good luck to you in your search. Merry Christmas! I am not familiar with Wash Co., research. The reason I posted that question regarding a marriage of Joseph Hays and Jenny was the citation I found in this book on Google.books. http://books.google.com/books?id=P-nw1hjzKSQC&pg=PA1330&dq=joseph+hays+jenny+virginia&ei=sQ9JSYeFIJTckwTsmozMDw Notice it shows a wife Jenny and the date is 1779, but the majority of the dates on this page are 1797, in going back a few pages I just see a few earlier dates now and then but mostly in the late 1790s. I am not familiar with this book "Annals of SW VA", I would almost think whoever transcribed the records had typos in it. Have you seen this book. I am puzzled now. The earlier marriage of 1779 would fit in with my line but the 1797 would be too late. Thank you for any help or suggestions.
