Well, I would like to know who the parents of John Benjamin W. Lindsay/ey were, too. That is a BIG brick wall. I have the Rouse Genealogy. Are you connected to the Lindsay/ey or the Rouse families? Brenda L Stroder
Thanks for the suggestion. I'm usually clever enough to use the Public Library System for questions--don't know why this didn't occur to me before.
Try the Washington Co Library Located in Abingdon Va. they have a great Gen. History section. they should have it .
the Public Library in Washington Co, Va, it's in Abingdon They Have a Gen area with local History they should have it there good luck
I have some information on the wife of John Benjamin Lindsay. She was the daughter of Philip Rouse and Margaret Surber. I would like to know the parents of John Benjamin Lindsay.
Thank you so much for taking the time to look up the census record for 1850 Washington co., Va for me. I do appreciate it. jlh
Have this from census. Am looking to find where this family is after 1830. Could have gone to TN, or Lee Co. VA, or perhaps even OK (one of the Lindsey's by family oral history went to OK in 1838). My interpretation is in brackets [ ]. Washington Co VA census 1810 Isaac Linsey 1 F b1801-1810 [daughter] 1 M b1785-1794 [Isaac (head)] 1 F b1785-1794 [wife -Polly? recently married ] Washington Co VA census 1820 Isaac Lindsey 3 M b1811-1820 3 F b1811-1820 [6 children under 10] 1 M b1776-1794 [Isaac, head] 2 F b1776-1794 [Polly, and another adult woman?] 1 F b bef 1776 [older woman could be mother, Leticia???] [note: 1 F b1801-1810 from 1810 census is not on 1820 census, unless she is included with 1811-1820.] Washington Co VA census 1830 Isaac Linsy 2 M b1826-1830 1 M b1821-1825 2 F b1821-1825 1 M b1816-1820 1 M b1811-1815 1 F b1811-1815 1 F b1801-1810, [eldest daughter?] 1 M b1781-1790, [Isaac, head] 1 F b1781-1790 [Polly, wife?] So the mystery of the day is where is this family 1840, 1850, 1860 ??- not in Washington Co. VA Thats that for now, Katie Angermeyer _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp
Looking for marriage of Isaac LINDSEY (or spelling variations) to Mary / Polly UNKNOWN somewhere around Montgomery/Wythe/Giles/Bland or surrounding counties 1805-1810. Isaac was b ca 1785 Montgomery Co. VA, probably eldest s/o Moses LINDSEY and Leticia BRECKENRIDGE (m. 1785 Montgomery Co. VA). This is some of what I have on him: He appears in Washington Co VA census 1810 (male b 1785-1794), with what seems to be young wife (b 1785-1794) and a young daughter (b1801-1810). There is no record of a marriage for him in Washington Co. VA, and wonder if he were married in Montgomery/Wythe/ Giles/Bland or surrounding SW VA counties, where his parents lived until about 1797. I didn't find any Tipton on page 163 a or B, one on 171 (the only Tipton family in Washington Co., 1850) William, 31; son, 17; John, 11; George, 9; Louisa, 7; Henry, 5. Place of birth was unreadable.
Is anyone else researching the descendants of James Fields Crabtree/Docia Smith? I am particularly interested in their daughter Polly Mary Crabtree (b. abt. 1803, m. Benjamin Albright Johnston abt. 1818) and her children. Most specifically Addison Johnston (b. 1821). I believe he is my 4G grandfather, but I can't find even a sign that he was married, much less had children. I hope there is someone out there that can put me on the right track to nail this one down. Thanks. Gerri

I am researching our family history. We are looking for any information on "Fountain Norton", my gr-gr-gr-grandfather. According to the census records, he was born 1808-1812, in VA. He first turns up on the census in Hawkins Co, TN, just below Washington Co, VA, so we are hoping that someone there might be able to forward some information for us. His wife's name is recorded as Sarah, also born in VA. This is all the info we have been able to gather. If anyone can help, please respond to Beth Amos, e-mail bhappyapp@cs.com. Thank you.
Billy, I used Alta Vista from get go..But, I do use other engines too..My grgrgrandpa John Michael VanHuss was in the 25th Virginia Calvary. He was first on the 164 th Virginia Militia of Washington Co VA. Then from Feb 23 to June 30 1863 he was listed he listed in 25th Cav Va in Co H 27 Batt'n Mts Riffles. He was captured and sent to Louisville Ky Nov 21 1864 after being captured in Claiborne Co Tn. He was sent to Camp Chase Oh where he died Feb 8 1865. A picture of his grave is on my page http://www.geocities.com/millyella/myservicemen.html <A HREF="http://www.geocities.com/millyella/myservicemen.html">My Service Men</A> I have some other greats but they were from Ky and Tn. Milly, I understand the "poof" all to well....the brain is a terrible thing to lose..<grin>. Yes, the Flushing Creek site you pointed me to is an example of what I am looking for on the web to ensure I don't replicate data (and incidentally waste time). However, going thru Google again, I did not find anything much more than that. Yeah, I know you like Alta Vista, but I have always found Google efficient also. So, if you know which regiments your SW VA ancestors jointed, drop me a line. Billy
Oopss forgot to say the first one I found was KY not VA. But some Va counties are listed..Sorry.. There are a lot of different sites listed . To find them http://www.37.com then choose Alta Vista (my favorite search engine) Type in the Search box confederate casualty list Milly WARD Piros <A HREF="http://www.geocities.com/millyella/listofpages.html">A List of All My Pages</A> http://www.geocities.com/millyella/listofpages.html My Mind Is Like Lightning.....One brilliant flash and Pooooooooooffffffffffffffffffff it's gone..
Guys, I have been ignoring VA troops while doing transcriptions/abstractions of Confederate Civil War Casualty Lists. This is due to the fact that someone told me a while ago that all this information was already on-line. Maybe I am denser than the normal bear but I have not been able to find it. Soooo, to help me regionalize it, can you guys/gals/ladies/gentlemen, etc.....identify the VA Confederate regiments which were formed in SW VA. There are many VA regiment's casualty rolls listed and I would prefer to emphasize the region of the folks that have been so willing to help me! You can reply to the list or to me personally. Thanks & best of wishes, Billy Markland
