    1. [VAWASHIN] Re: Stoffel/Stophel/Stuffle frm MD>VA>TN
    2. Stoffel isn't my main line of research but I do have a little. So far as I know, Henry and Christina did not leave once they came to Washington County except maybe a couple of miles. As you may know, Bristol is split right down the middle with Washington County, Va., on one side and Sullivan County, Tenn. on the other. Are you searching for anything other than Henry and Christiana? Most, but not all, of the Stoffels seem to have settled on the Tennessee side.

    1. [VAWASHIN] Re: Goodson County, VA
    2. Bristol, Virginia was formerly Town of Goodson until, I believe, 1890 so the person you are looking for may appear on records at Bristol, Virginia courthouse or in Abingdon, Virginia , Washington County, where records were kept before it became Bristol. Also you may find help in old City Directories in the Bristol Public Library. I think the earliest is in the 1890s.

    3. >>On my grandfather's death certificate it lists as the county he died in as Goodson County, VA. Has this county been changed since 1935?<< There has never been a Goodson County, Va.. If he lived in southwest Va., he may have died in the Goodson District, Washington co., Va.. If he lived further east, it may have been Goochland Co., Va... If you wish to tell the name of the person, someone might be able to find it in the cemetery books as he was probably buried. G. Lee Hearl Authentic Appalachian Storyteller Abingdon, Va.

    2. My name is Donna, maiden name is Berry and I am descended from a John Berry born in 1794 in Gallatin, KY...I don't know who his parents were, but his wife (Elizabeth Melton) and her family originated from Albermarle Co, VA, so I am thinking that this may be where his parents came from also...all of this seems to be extremely complicated due to the fact that the names seem to be so common, and tend to carry through from one generation to the other....so I am in search of finding out who his parents were and exactly where they may have come from prior to arriving here in the US...CAN YOU HELP ME ? Thanks, Donna
