The Cifers/Ciphers name has been on of my brick walls. My great grand father, Ransom Rufus Cipher was born in 1840. Don't have any siblings nor parents, and am still looking. Married Sadie Chronster. Had seven children, Beulah, Lola, Kate, Nancy, James, Willie, and Oscar. Re-located to SC in early 1900's. His father was James Harvey Cifers, married to ?Lizzie Parker. I have just started researching this side of the family and haven't had much luck. My mother thinks Cifers is an Irish name but I can't find any proof of that at all. Hope you can enlighten me.
