Adams, b. Abt 1810. My great-grand uncle, Bill, who would have been Joel Adams' grandson, always told us his grandfather came from Wise, Virginia, which would have been in Russell County at that time. He claimed that Joel was married to a Native American girl, but her family didn't approve and chased Joel out of Virginia into Kentucky, where he remarried and had more children. Joel can be found in the 1870 Kentucky Census living in Johnson County. According to the census, Joel was born in Virginia, and both his parents were born in North Carolina. Joel was married to Annie Davis and they had 3 children. According to the census, Joel's oldest son, James Henry Adams, was 5 in 1870 and born in Kentucky. Joel Adams is not listed in the 1850 census, so he must have come to Johnson county, Kentucky between 1850 and 1865. If anyone has information on Joel B. Adams, please contact me at chuckadams01@yahoo.com

While looking for a definition of some items found on an estate inventory in 1823, I found this really neat site. It has inventories for over 300 estates from MD & VA. The site is Gunston Hall, originally owned by George Mason. The period of time for the estates featured are during the same period Mason was alive. It does not feature every estate inventory from the following locales, only selected ones but they may help someone and they are interesting. Here is what areas are covered as quoted from the site: "Using microfilm of original court records from Fairfax, Prince William and Stafford counties in Virginia and Charles and Prince George's counties in Maryland, probate inventories were selected according to predetermined criteria. Considered to be of particular importance, these counties reflect jurisdictions in which George Mason owned land and/or was known to have transacted business. In addition to the counties cited, a number of room-by-room inventories are included from the following jurisdictions: In Virginia: the cities of Norfolk and Fredericksburg and the counties of James City, Elizabeth City, Lancaster, Surrey, Richmond, Frederick, Charles City, Spotsylvania, Middlesex, Westmoreland and York. In Maryland: Anne Arundel County and Annapolis." The URL for the Probate Inventories is: http://www.gunstonhall.org/probate/inventory.htm The main URL for the Gunston Hall site is: http://www.gunstonhall.org Hope this helps someone, Billy

Thanks to my cousin Ann, a new resource for on-line research for PA residents has been noted. It is the Pennsylvania Digital Archives located at the following URL: http://www.digitalarchives.state.pa.us/archive.asp So far, they only have records abstract cards for PA Revolutionary soldiers, Spanish American Volunteers card files, and WW1 Service Medal application for PA residents. Hopefully, this will grow like the VA digital library has. Thank you Ann for sharing! Billy
Hi, new to group. Looking for info on Daniel Hall Moore, married to Mary Lou Heath--late 1880's early 1900s. Her father was Claudius Heath, Daniels parents were Jospeh and Sally Moore. If these are familiar names, please contact me! Thanks! Sharon midniterainbow@webtv.net
Hello All, I am seeking help on a particular set of the Brown family of Washington Co. VA. Information is very sketchy but here goes. I am seeking the parents and family of Charles Jackson Brown who was born January 21, 1885 in Girard, Crawford Co. Kansas, died September 6, 1969 in Glade Spring, VA. He married Martha "Sissy" WIDENER, who died January 11, 1938. After her death, Charles married as his second wife, Mary Edna MOCK. This Charles Jackson Brown appears in the 1910 Virgina Miracode Index. Family history dictates his father was John BROWN and (?) BISHOP from Washington Co. VA, moving to Kansas for a try at farming there. However, after Charles' birth, his parents moved back to Washington Co. VA and at some point, John Brown's wife died, and he later remarried, moving to Florida and had a large family there. I do not know how trustworthy this family history is, but if anyone recognizes any of these names, please let me know. I would love to know more about Charles and information about his parents. Thank you in advance. K.
