    1. [VAWASHIN] Andrew J. Bishop Family Washington Co. VA
    2. K Harper
    3. Hello All, I am searching for information on the Andrew J. Bishop family of Washington Co. VA as well as any of Andrew's ancestors. I am working on a friend's family and am unfortunately unfamiliar with the older families of Washington County but I understand that the Bishops have been there for some time. Just bear with my rambling. Andrew J. (A.J.) Bishop was the son of Samuel Dark Bishop. He was born in Glade Spring, Washington County July 1, 1833. One of his daughters, Neoma Ann Bishop, married John Brown. Here is the information on their marriage from Washington Co. Marriages: 4 April 1878, J.T.S. Bramm, age 22 married Naoma A. Bishop, age 18. He was the son of Richard M. and Rebecca Bramm/Branm and she was the daughter of A.J. and Rachel E. Bishop. I am wondering if Andrew J. Bishop is the Andrew Jackson Bishop who served in Co. I of the 64th VA Mounted Infantry (CSA) which was composed of men from Lee, Buchanan, Scott counties among others, as well as elements of the Washington County milita. He does not appear in any of the censuses after 1860 so I am assuming he died in the war, etc. I would deeply appreciate any help you could give me on Andrew J. Bishop or the Bishop family of Washington Co. VA. Thank you in advance!

    1. [VAWASHIN] Browns of Washington Co.
    2. K Harper
    3. Hello All, I am seeking information on the Richard Brown family of Washington County, VA. Richard Brown married Rebecca WAMPLER 9-8-1846 in Wythe, VA. I am assuming they were originally from Wythe Co. VA. I know of at least one son, John Steffy BROWN. I believe his full intitials could have been "J.T.S Brown". From my digging around, I believe that the middle name "Steffy" is in honor of Rebecca Wampler's family, perhaps, as there is a connection somewhere between the Wamplers and the Steffys. I am looking for information on their respective families: Browns, Wamplers, Steffys. In information found in Washington Co. Marriages, there appears: 4 April 1878, J.T.S. Bramm, age 22 married Naoma A. Bishop, age 18. He was the son of Richard M. and Rebecca Bramm/Branm and she was the daughter of A.J. and Rachel E. Bishop. I am wondering if they weren't German in origin with the "Bramm" or "Branm" name and changed it later to Brown. Or, perhaps it was hard to transcribe, I'm not sure. In the 1880 Census. Household #205 in the Holston District lists Richard Brown, age 57 and Rebecca, age 54 and a daughter, Martha E.J. , age 15. There the name is Brown, not Bramm or Branm. John Steffy Brown, Richard and Rebecca's son, went to Kansas then returned to Virginia during the 1880s. His only known child is Charles Jackson Brown who lived the entirety of his life in Washington Co. VA. He appears in the 1880 Washington Co. VA census, but have not located him further. He possibly left for Florida after the death of his first wife. If anyone can help me, I would appreciate it very much. Thanks in advance.
