    1. [VAWASHIN] Joseph and Betty Winfry/Willis/Wood/Musick
    2. Dean Powell
    3. John and Nancy (Winfry?) Willis are my ggg grandparents. John Willis died 20 Dec., 1855 in an accident in Washington Co., VA and is buried in the Davis Cemetery there. He is the son of Abner (Absolom?) and Eve Willis. The Russell Co., VA Bios posted by William "Bill" Willis of the Willis family include my family. Nancy Willis, widow of John, married Allen Fleenor 25 Nov., 1873 in Washington Co., VA. Allen had lost his wife, Sarah Hobbs. Elizabeth d/o Allen and Sarah Fleenor had married Henry Dickenson Willis, s/o John and Nancy Willis. The marriage license for Nancy Willis to Allen Fleenor shows she was born in Russell Co., VA - parents unnamed. In the Unfiled Death Records of Washington Co., VA 1865-1896 there is a Nancy Fleener (Fleenor?) white, female, died 03 Jan., 1893 of old age (82 yrs) in Kinderhook Dist. Her parents are shown as Joseph & Betty Winfry. Informant was Wash Cunningham listed as "friend", mother was listed as consort, "presuming mother of Mary Jane". Since Washington Browning Cunningham married Mary Jane Willis, d/o John and Nancy Willis it is my "belief" that this is my ggg grandmother, Nancy Winfry Willis Fleenor. John and Nancy's daughter, Martha Willis married William Wood and they are my gg grandparents. Wash had put Washington Co., VA as birthplace for Nancy (she had lived there all the time he would have known her) but "believe" that birthplace ~ Russell Co., VA on marriage license would be correct. Has anyone ever run into or researched a Jospeh and Betty Winfry family in Russell Co., VA? I am also in the Musick family through the parents of William Wood who is the s/o John and Mary Musick Wood, married in Washington Co., VA 19 March, 1813. The only Mary Musick that I can connect to (age and place) is Polly Parsonette b June 27, 1795 to James and Jane Wright Musick. I have not been able to either prove or disprove this. Elizabeth Musick, who would be sister of Polly Parsonette, married Isaac Gobble. John Wood, Jr. married Elizabeth Gobble, d/o Isaac and Elizabeth Musick Gobble. We "believe" that he is the son of John and Mary Musick Wood. That would have made cousins marrying, not unusual in the Gobble family. John Wood, Jr and Elizabeth"Betsie" Gobble Wood died in Decatur Co., Iowa. Death record for John shows he was born in VA, death record for "Betsie" shows she is the d/o Isaac and Elizabeth "Betsie" Musick Gobble. I have looked everywhere I could think of but cannot find the Winfry family. Zelda "Marguerette" Powell

    1. [VAWASHIN] Joel B. Adams b. abt 1810
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: ADAMS, CANTRELL, POWERS, MEEK, WARD, BLANTON, BURCHETT Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/GBC.2ACE/427 Message Board Post: It's me again. I'm still looking for information on Joel B. Adams, b. Abt 1810 in VA - d. Aft 1880 in KY. My great-grand uncle, Bill, who would have been Joel Adams' grandson, always told us his grandfather came from Wise, Virginia. He claimed that Joel was married to a Native American girl, but she went back to her family. Joel then left Virginia for Kentucky, where he married Anne Davis and had 3 more children; James Henry, Nancy, and Amanda. Joel Adams and Anne Davis can be found in the 1870, and 1880 census living in Johnson County, KY. All three children are listed in the 1880 census with them. Now here's where it gets interesting. Try to keep up. From a reply to an earlier post, I'm confident Joel B. Adams was born in Washington County, Va., between 1801 and 1810. There he was married to Jane F. (possibly Galliher) and had three daughters; Mary B., Elizabeth Catherine, and Martha J.L. Adams (who died in her teens). Mary B. Adams married Isaac Fitzpatrick and was living in Johnson County, KY. In the 1860 census, Joel B. and Elizabeth Catherine are listed as living in Isaac and Mary's household. Elizabeth Catherine married Thomas Leek and had one son, Thomas (Joel Shelton) Leek. However, Thomas Leek was killed in a mining accident shortly after the birth of their son. Elizabeth later married Samuel K. Rice in Johnson County and had more children. I'm also confident Joel had a brother John Q. who left for Johnson County, KY before him. In the 1860 census John was living in Johnson County with his wife Sarah Evans. John Q. apparently came to KY between 1855 - 1856. In the 1880 Johnson County census, Joel B. and John Q. can be found living in adjacent households (Barnetts Creek Precinct, House Nos 143 and 144 respectively). John also had a son named James H. which leads me to believe an older male in the family (possibly father) was named James or Henry or both. Both men also had daughters named Nancy. An added note... Thomas (Joel Shelton) Leek can be found living in the home of John Q. in 1880. He is 13 and listed as John's nephew. Now that my long-winded spiel is over. I'd like to find Joel's parents. Joel says in the census that his father was from VA and his mother from NC. John says his parents were both from NC. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Email me at chuckadams01@yahoo.com

Surnames: Butler Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/GBC.2ACE/426 Message Board Post: I am looking for the ancestry of William Butler born about 1735 somewhere in Virginia. At some point he moved to Maryland where at least one of his sons was born, John R. Butler (Aug. 10, 1769). From Maryland, it appears that William moved back to Virginia and then to what is know Kentucky. He built “Butler's Station” in Adair Co. KY in 1789. The rest of his children are as follows, David b. abt 1774, Elkanah "Lcain" b. abt. 1785, William b. ?, Isaac b. ?, Nathan b. ?, James b. ?. Of these children I don’t know where any of them were born. William also seems to have been in the following places Tazewell & Montgomery County, VA, and Crab Orchard, VA in 1768. My goal is to find more details about William’s family. Any help with this line would be most appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time,
