    1. [VAWASHIN] Fairley Phoebe LINDSEY HOOVER
    2. katie angermeyer
    3. To Judy and the HOOVER family, I am about 99% certain that Fairley / Phoebe LINDSEY is d/o Moses LINDSEY and Catherine MYERS. The evidence is circumstantial and to my knowledge their are no other likely suspects in Washington Co. VA. Evidence 1) NAMING PATTERN. First daughter of Valentine and Fairley is Catherine, likely named after the mother?s mother. 2) LINDSEY connection with second daughter Sarah HOOVER m. William LINDSEY. 3) William Jasper WOODWARD who m Mariah HOOVER, is grandson of Catherine and Moses LINDSEY and was on the 1860 census living with his grandparents. This would make William Jasper and Mariah first cousins, which was common in that day. 4) Valentine HOOVER?S second wife is Eliza FARRIS WOODWARD. The FARRIS/FAIRES family were neighbors of Moses and Catharine LINDSEY, and there were land transactions between these families. 5) Based on Washington Co. census information 1820, 1830, 1840, 1850 Moses and Catherine LINDSEY had as many as 13 children. I have names of only five (counting Fairley/Phoebe). Her age fits as one of the younger daughters. Question for you... any information on the Sarah Ann HOOVER who married William LINDSEY? Who are the parents of this William and are there any children to this couple? If I am right, that would make any descendents of Valentine HOOVER and Fairley LINDSEY cousins of mine. (My gg grandfather James Alexander LINDSEY would be first cousins to Mariah HOOVER and William Jasper WOODWARD). Would like to correspond with any of the descendents of the folks listed below. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/GBC.2ACE/440.1.1 Message Board Post: Dear Lesley, Thank you for your reply. My name is Jill Conover. I am a professional writer from Maryland currently conducting research on how women of the region were impacted by the Civil War: How the lives of ordinary women were affected (on the homefront) by the conflict and the challenges that they faced during the period. I am interested in primary source material such as diaries or letters written from 1855-1870 by women from: Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania. During the period, women did become, out of desire and necessity, more independent and took on greater family responsibilities. Your great great grandmother may be a good example (although it certainly sounds like she was a bit ahead of her time). Would you be willing to share the contents (photocopy fine) of the letter and general background about her (e.g. name/birthplace/DOB/DOD/primary location of residence during period)? With thanks, - Jill Conover Note: You may respond directly at jillmike66@msn.com or jmc6@hood.edu

    2. I have uploaded to my web site the following databases: Prince George's County, MD Slave Index as compiled from Estate Inventories 1740-1744...........this is the proofed version & contains all slaves & indentured servants found on Probate Book DD1. Probate Book DD2 will be completed in January. Prince George's County, MD Debtors Index as compiled from Estate inventories 1740-1744...this is incomplete at this time but I hope to have the remainder completed in January. The Slave Index is the same which can be found at the USGenWeb Maryland archives (except in HTML of course...I hate plain text). By the way, if you haven't visited it recently, do so. They have loads of great data for various MD counties. I will be contributing the debtor's list to them also. The link to my site is: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~familyinformation/ and I have a direct link to both databases on the main index page To USGenWeb's Project State Pages http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ I am spending some time doing another project that I think has astounding significance for the Afro-American genealogist! I found in the Papers of the Continenetal Congress what are called Inventory Books of Negroes who arrived in NY City in 1783. I need to dig into the history a bit but the books were done by the British (Guy Carleton's signature is on the end of each). This roll lists surname, given name, ship arrived on, description, age, who brought them, former owner and place of residence. This will be the largest project I have ever tackled so wish me luck! I will upload tonight an example of what is there. Happy Holidays to all and I hope I have given someone a present within one of these databases! Billy
