    3. Bonnie, Which NEAL are you researching? I have these: NEAL, John Randolph, child of 3 NEEL, C. C., child of 2 NEEL, John R. 3 NEEL, Obadiah 2 NEEL, Obadiah Sr. 1 NEEL, Obediah, child of 2 NEEL, Sarah (Sally), child of 2 NEEL, Son, child of 2 I would like to know more about Obadiah 2. He married 1-Polly LINDSEY IN 1819 -WCV- They had a son b 1819/1820. Obadiah remarried 2-Polly McCRACKEN and 3-Amanda UNK. I am most interested in the son of Obadiah 2 and Polly 1. Don't know his name or history. He is the only child with a LINDSEY connection, and his poor mother died very young, having only the one child. She was my ggg grand aunt. In my search, I found two Rev. War vets, you may be interested in too: William NEAL/NEEL. Was under James Robertson in Dunmores War 1774 (this unit from Walkers Creek), and looks like a William NEEL 1761-1841, Rev. War vet (probably the same guy), buried in Sifford Cemetery, White Gate, Giles Co. He may connect to the Obadiah's of mine. I would like to know more about him. I found a Rev. War vet James Gilliland 1745-1833, buried in Washington Co. VA. I have other bits of Gilliland information on my data base, but am not researching this line. Let me know if any of this interests you, or if you have any more on my Neals's. (Interesting bit of Neal trivia, John Randolph Neal was one of the lawyers from Nashville working on the Scopes monkey trial in the 1920's. There is a good bit about him on-line, if you do a search on his name). 3. To Those Interested: The Kinderhook District used to be a voting district which joined the Bristol, Va. city limits and extended about half way to Abingdon, Va. up Lee Higway.. It later became the Goodson District and is now the Wilson district.. To locate it better, it is divided from the Harrison district by state Rd. 614 and 633. It takes in Wyndale and Wallace, two small villages along the railroad between Bristol and Abingdon.. I hop this helps locate it for you.. G. 3. I'm sure that there was a Kinderhook in Washington County since my Leonard ancestors show up on the 1870, 1880, and 1900 censuses in Kinderhook, Washington county, VA. This page - http://www.ls.net/~newriver/va/wash32a.htm - discusses the creation of a "Kinderhook magisterial district" prior to 1860 and includes data from the Kinderhook district as late as 1930. However, when I looked Kinderhook, VA up on MapQuest, I also came up with something not in Washington County and it probably was in Madison or Greene county, as Alice suggests. Perhaps "Kinderhook" never designated a town in Washington County, rather only a district and this districting system is no longer in use? As I mentioned before, I have found references to the "Goodson-Kinderhook Volunteer Fire Department" (see for example, this Bristol Herald Courier obituary for Clarence Wilmer Kilby: http://www.bristolnews.com/obits/MGB44039MJC.html) and Goodson is also a district to which the ~newriver page (listed above) makes reference. This site has an 1820 map of Washington County - http://image.vtls.com/cgi-sid/local_image.cgi?ox=0&oy=0&filename=/BPW/maps/7 11-36.sid&referer=http://image.vtls.com/BPW/indexes/711-712.html&title=++WOO D-BOYE+COUNTY+MAPS+AND+CHART&res=3&size=12&part=1&fullwidth=5155&fullheight= 2948&header=&parts=0 (be careful to get all of that) - it is number 36 on this page: http://image.vtls.com/BPW/indexes/711-712.html (which is a more manageable link) - but I didn't find Kinderhook on it. I didn't look as carefully as I could have, but it is also possible that 1820 is too early for Kinderhook to appear on the map. This site has an 1895 map of Washington County - http://www.livgenmi.com/washingtonVA.htm - but I found no Kinderhook or Goodson on it. Another possibility is that Kinderhook district was originally in Washington County but - after the movement of county boundaries over time - it is now in Greene or Madison county, but a (very) quick perusal of county locations seems to suggest that they are not in the right location for this. See: An Economic and Social Survey of Washington County, Virginia http://www.ls.net/~newriver/va/wash32a.htm Scroll down to the article on Mendota, by P. L. Barker. It seems to be near Goodson, since there exists an "Goodson-Kinderhook Volunteer Fire Dept." I've often wondered if this was Martin Davis' father. The census listed John Davis from North Carolina his wife 'Lucianey' and their sons Alexander who is age 3 and Andrew age 6 months Right? (They all are listed together on page 530) This COULD be Martin Davis' father. Martin had a son named Andrew and a brother named Alex Davis. HOPEFULLY Martin's Andrew is named after John's Andrew. All we know about Martin's brother Alex is that he worked on the railroad with Martin. They both may have retired from the railroad in 1915. Most of the info I have is on Alex's brother Martin (My Great Great Grandad). I hope there is a connection here somewhere.

    3. Thank you Katie, Yes, LC Newland was a tanner, & in 1855 became the mayor of Abingdon. He also bought the Wills house in 1855. His first wife was Eliza Hathorn.By 1861 he married Sarah Minnick & left for IL & ended up with his youngest son fighting for the North, his son in law, James Deadmore, a Capt. for the South & his oldest living son going west to mine for gold. Sarah is the one I'm having a hard time locating information on. Her parents were Wm. Minnick & Sarah Spiors. This is my brick wall. 3. Greetings I just went to http://www.rootsweb.com/~vawashin/wchspubl.htm (The Historical Society of WCV) and noticed these books. It's dangerous for me to check that list, because I might just have to spend more money. I'll bet they are wonderful. Just wonder if anyone could look to see if there is an index and see if there is anything on Lindsey, Newland, or Breckenridge in these Nanci King books: Places in Time: Abingdon, VA 1778-1880, Volume I by Nanci C. King. Covers 78 houses & other buildings of Abingdon built from 1778 to 1880. $12.95 + $2.20 P&H. _____ Places in Time: Abingdon,Meadowview & Glade Spring,VA Volume II by Nanci C. King. Photographs & histories of many of the early homes and other buildings. Also notes other sites of a number of other buildings that no longer exist. 166 pp. $16.00 + $3.30 P&H. _____ Places in Time: South from Abingdon to the Holston, Volume III by Nanci C. King. Photographs & Histories of 266 homes and many early b uildings, 104 pages, $16.00 + $3.30 P&H Thanks, Katie PS You know what, I'll bet that the Hist. Society could sell lots of books, if they put indexes of surnames on line. And also, some of the older documents that are past copyright age could be scanned and put on line through Jeff Weaver's site or WCV site. Those Cosby Papers, 1910, for example, lots of people could benefit from. _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx
