    2. alley
    3. Phillip Showers b. 1843/1845 in PA or WV depending on which record you see, married in Fauquier Co. Lived in Warren/Fauq Co. in Linden. He's the subject of the legendary Phillip who lived to be 116 years old and was supposed to have been born in 1820 according to obit and article written about him at age 114. However, marriage certificate and census records differ greatly with those articles on his age. Phillip married Eliza Jane ELKINS in 1865. Eliza had one son, George, born in 1858, that apparently is not the son of Phillip. Looking for father of George ELKINS SHOWERS. Eliza is daughter of James ELKINS and unknown mother. Searching for TRUTH on Phillip SHOWERS birth date, his parents, his place of birth. Phillip had one son that is known, James Henry SHOWERS. Phillip married Fannie KENNEY after Eliza died. I have a lot of info on this line that I am willing to share. Some terrific cousins in VA are now doing research and sharing everything they find. http://home.tampabay.rr.com/shenandoah/ "Shenandoah Ancestry" has a page on Showers with a picture of Phillip and some of his family. There is also a page on Kenney with pictures. Alley Blackford alley@tampabay.rr.com

    3. I am looking for my gt.gt.grandmother Nancy McFarland. She was born in Warran Co. Va. and I do not have parents for her. Only info I have is that on the 1860 Schuyler Co. Mo. Census she is a widow and states she is 67 years old. Another census in Ohio states she was born 1813. I beleive this is wrong. I beleive she herself gave the census taker her report and she was indeed 67 years old and born in Warren Co. Va. Any one jhave any info on the McFarlands living in Va. around 1793-94? Thanks so much, Shirley Combs

This major distinction will always apply. There has always been a need to expand the concept into our "Mother" state. We'll always be attached to her. This connection will now be aided by healing the wounds of the "War Between the States" or "Civil War" genealogically for those veterans of the Confederacy and the Union. If my count is correct; Virginia has 94 counties. That is quite a lot of potential new researchers. They'll now have opportunity to join us in this new genealogical endeavor! 3. Hi All, If you have tried to access any of the Rootsweb pages, you will know that they are down. Here is a note from the server owner. We are hoping to be back at full capacity by early next week. HARDWARE STILL BROKEN (Friday ... ) Date: Friday, June 05, 1998 8:31 AM > The good news is that the failing drive is now out of the machine, > and the disks are organized such that we can easily move them to a > newer and faster machine. > > The bad news is that the old server is still overloaded. We had > hoped the new drives (which are much faster than the old drive) > would have helped reduce the load on the server, but we still have > capacity problems. We obviously still have stability problems on the old Web server. I'm in the process of replacing all the adapter boards, with especial prejudice concerning the SCSI disk controller. Regardless of whether I can get the old server to stay up, we'll have the new server online within the next couple of days. That should fix the problem in a permanent sense. -B Good luck in your quest, Yvonne, List Administrator ****** Yvonne James-Henderson, Burke, VA MO USGenWeb Archives Manager http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/mo/mofiles.htm NC USGenWeb Archive Manager http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nc/ncfiles.htm DC USGenWeb Archive Manager http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/dc/dcfiles.htm ****** My Family Discussion Lists: BALLEAU BRISBIN COOKSEY GALBRAITH HITT HORN KENTON LAWSON LUCKY MORROW SWEET ZIMMERMAN Also researching JAMES/WRIGHT/WALLACE/WOODS//EATON/DRAKE/ FORSYTHE/WALKER/RUSSELL/DAVIS/BOOKOUT/BARNEY/REYNOLDS/ BUMP/HENDERSON/MCCLURG and more! 3. NANPEXA Thanks! The Warren Heritage Society's Laura Virginia Hale Archives is open Wednesdays 10 - 1 pm. They are supposed to start summer hours next week which will include Fridays 10 - 1. I do not know if they have available volunteers to man those hours or not. You might want to phone ahead. If you are planning a trip to the area, call ahead and ask to make an appointment. If a volunteer is available to open for you, you'll get individual attention that way too :) Good luck in your search. I hope to be doing some work for the archives later this summer when a new HUGE collection is to arrive. 2. I am researching my RISDON surname. My grgrgf, WILLIAM JOSEPH RISDON, born 3/3/1831 in Prince George's County, MD, claimed his residence was Front Royal, VA when obtaining a marriage license in Fauquier Co. VA. Is anyone aware of any RISDON family in Front Royal between 1831 and 1851. After marriage in Fauquier Co. in 1851 he & wife MARY KIRBY resided in Warrenton, VA. Purpose of inquiry is an effort to identify William's parents whom I have been unable to locate in MD, DC or VA counties around DC. Thanks John Risdon in FL
