For those of you looking for information on this mine disaster, don't forget to look into the West Virginia records just acrossed the state line from Tazewell. According to THEY DIED IN THE DARKNESS by Lacy Dillon, the West Virginia Department of Mines headed the investigation because the mine came under their jurisdication. The coal processing plant, the company store and the mine offices were on the WV side. Most of the miners lived on the Virginia side and entered the mine by that side.
