Dear Frieda: I am researching my roots too - aren't we all?- and I have come across the surname of Francisco. A cousin of mine living in Buchanan County has told me that a large group of Italians came to Tazewell County to work at the Pocahontas Mine. I would like to confirm that info and if possible obtain a roster of those Italian miners. My Gr-Gr-Gr-Grandmother's name was Margaret 'Peggy' Francisco and she married Richard Daniel Deskins about 1800. I am trying to trace Peggy back a little further. Can you or someone else help me with the Italian connection? Any help will be greatly appreciated and I will be willing to share info that I have on the Shorts.
