Karen, There is a lot of information on the Belcher surname in three books, Archives of the Pioneers of Tazewell County, VA by Netti Schreiner-Yantis and Annals of the Tazewell, County, VA by John Newton Harman, Sr. Another excellent book is: History fo Tazewell County and Southwest Virginia 1748-1920 by William C. Pendleton. I purchased these books, but I have seen them in my local Library also. If your local library doesn't have them they could get them on loan from another library. They are worth reading if you have connections to Tazewell County, they are loading with information.
