Hi Everyone: I think I may be a step closer to removing a couple of bricks. Special thanks to Lula Hunter for all her help. Without those clues, I might not have figured it out! As most of you know, I have been obsessed with finding Harrison Boling and his wife, Matilda. Still not a clue to Harrison's parents, but it looks like we do have Matilda's! Turns out ( I am awaiting documentation, but am sure in my own mind) that Matilda is the daughter of William Peery and Mary Polly Wynn. There is strong circumstantial evidence of this. I recently acquired the book, Marriages of Tazewell County 1854-1866. When Ann on this list looked up the 1860 census for me, there were listings for several of Matilda's children who were still living with her. I realized I didn't have the names of all the children, I started going through everything I had in the correct time frame. Right in the marriage book, I found a record for William Boling listed as the son of Haris Boling and Matilda Perry. A cousin had told me Matilda was a Peery, but I didn't have any proof. Here is proof -a real live record! Then Lula discovered that in the 1850 census, Matilda was living next door to William Peery and his second wife, Theresa Kinser. By 1860 Matilda had moved to Burkes Garden. Lula also discovered a land transaction in which Matilda transferred land to John Wynn. I am told that Matilda is listed in William Peery's will. With all this, I am pretty certain I have the correct person. I will, of course, send for all the documents, but I am pretty jazzed about finding this piece of the puzzle. Just wanted to share my good news and say thank you to all who helped (many of whom are on this list!) If I can be of help to any of you, just let me know.
