Dear Bill, I have Burchetts on my line who loved in Floyd County, Ky. My great grandmother was Elizabeth Burchett born 1858. She married Charles Ramsey Workman Elizabeth's parents were George Burchett and Mary (Hunt) who married Dec. 14, 1855. George and Mary lived on Rockcastle Creek, later Johnson and Martin Counties, Ky. and later on Cow Creek in Floyd Cty., Ky. There they had their children and on Cow Creek one day, George's cousin, Drury Burchett pulled a knife on him in a fight and stabbed him to death. No judicial records. That was about 1870 . Soon after, Mary took the children and moved to Lawrence County, Ky. (Story told to me by David Chafin, grandson of Nanny Cartmill). George and Mary' children: John E., born 1855, Elizabeth Burchett, b. 1858, Nancy Ann, born 1859, Benjamin, b. 1862, William, b. 1864, Louis, b. 1866, Joseph, b. 1868. There was an article in the last ANCESTRY MAGAZINE (Jan./Feb. 2000) by Matt Burchett. His story was "The Quest For Solomon's Tomb." It was about Solomon Burchett, born July 14, 1835 Died: Mar. 5, 1897 in Wayne County, West Virginia. I am wondering if this Solomon was related to the above mentioned George of Floyd Cty. Ky.
