Jordon Efferson Bowling died on 20 June 1863 in Petersburg, VA while serving in the Civil War and was buried in Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond Va. As Jordan was between 10 and 15 years old in the 1830 census, the only Bowling listed in the 1830 Census with children between 10 and 15 years of age is William Bowling, therefore it seems most likely that William Bowling was the father of Jordan E. Bowling. In addition, William Boland gives his permission as Jordon's father on Jordon's marriage bond: Know all men by these presents, that Jordan E. Boling and Hiram Bolling are held and firmly bound unto David Campbell Governor of the Commonwealth of Virignia , in the sum of One Hundered and Fifty Dollars; to be paid to the said Governor for the time being, andhis successors in office; to which payment well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves, our heirs etc. jointly and severally, firmly by these presents. Sealed with our seals and dated this 17th day of June 1837. The condition of the above obligation is such, that whereas the above bound Jordan E. Bolling hath this day obtained from the Clerk of the County Court of Tazewell a License for his marriage with Margaret Higginbotham Daughter of Moses Higginbotham of said County.
