Clear DayJudy, Don, Gwenn, et al- Thank you to all those on the Tazewell County list who have graciously taken time to submit Peery-Perry information during the last few days. I really appreciate it, and have shared it with other cousins who have been studying our ancestor Jesse Perry whom we believe lived in Henry County, VA before migrating to South Carolina in the 1790's. My Tazewell County ancestry comes through my mother and includes the surnames Ward, Bowen, Thompson, PEERY, McCall, George et al. I have always concentratred my Tazewell research on those lines. And it never occurred to me to look for a link between the Tazewell PEERYs and my father's PERRY ancestor Jesse Perry. This should really not have been suprising to me, because of another Tazewell - SC link in my family. My father was a direct descendant of Capt Robert Bowen who also went to SC in the 1790's, and was a brother of Lt. Rees Bowen, progenator of the Tazewell Bowens. My mother and father were 3rd cousins twice removed on their Bowen lines. Though speculative, it could certainly be possible that the first Thomas PEERY-PERRY, the father of the boys who went to Tazewell in 1773, and who lived near Staunton, VA, could have been a relative of my Jesse Perry. From what I've read on this list yesterday and this morning, it is implied that in that time and place the Peerys spelled there name interchangeably. And that even among those who came and stayed in Tazewell used the different spellings. Thank you again. Any further information on this subject would also be graciously appreciated.
