    3. Joseph Vandike does not appear on the 1830 census. However, Joseph and Abigale may be living with part of the Vandike family as there is a male and female of their age living with John Vandike Jr. and I have no other explanation for this male and female. Joseph does appear on the Tazewell property lists starting in 1832 and remains on the list for the next years. On February 24, 1845 Joseph sold his land to Israel Vandike. I wonder if he did not sell his land and move away from Tazewell with some of my line of the Vandike family and then may have died and Abigale came back to Tazewell and lived. My reason for thinking this is the deed to Israel. Instead of being witnessed by Joseph and Abigale, as was normal on the old deeds, this deed of sale was proven by the oath of David Christian, Alexander Prewett, and Anthony Christian. I assume that Joseph and Abigale were not present to wistness the sale. I believe that William Matney, who married Nancy Vandike and moved to Missouri and then on to Kansas is the brother of Abigale.
