Dan, I don't remember if I have thrown this out before; if so let's go for a second time. I have Abigale Mattenlee who married Joseph Vandike 21 July 1829. Joseph is not listed in the 1830 Census. Abigale is listed in the 1840 Tazewell Co. Census. She is subsequently found in Tazewell and Buchanan Counties, VA. She is enumerated in the census near Walter Matney, Sr in the 1850 Tazewell Census; I suspect he is her father. This Walter Mattingly/Matney is 78 in 1850 Tazewell Census (b @ 1770s). Have you been able to make a connection between the Tazewell Matney/Mattingly families to the Mattingly families of Maryland? Have you established migration patterns for older members of the family which might have passed through Tazewell County; or definitely did not pass through this area. I have been hitting this wall from the Abigale/Walter side for a long time. Any thoughts on who might be on the other side? I wish I had something important to contribute but questions seem to be the only thing I have. Lomane
