I just was reading some birth registers from Tazewell, year 1861, and many occupations of the fathers were farmers, black smiths, mechanic, merchants ect. But one particular birth listed Whiskey Drinker as the birth father's occupation., and the wife/mother was the informant!
Hi, anyone researching the Winston family, I have an interesting birth record for you. Ann
Michelle - Thank you so much for all you do. I really enjoy the articles although I have found only one reference to a relative. The articles give me a feel for what the community my relatives were facing during those times. I'd gathered that the articles usually made reference to the prominent people of Tazewell. Interestingly, my relative, John Champ, was mentioned for his arrest for moonshining. Thanks again. Melanie

I just did something and I didn't realize it until now. I'm on the Wythe County Forum also, and I accidentally posted my message to the Wythe county forum with your subject heading about who researching who? With the same message from as the Tazewell Forum, now everyone is posting one family after the other, just like it is in this forum. There is hardly any activity at all, and now...unbelievable! Everybody is getting to know who's who at such and accelerated rate, putting their family puzzle pieces together. It's wonderful That is one error I had, anything good come out of it ... Thank You Michelle Burress, you started something Gwenn
I have been researching the Asbury, Belcher and Bowling families and enjoy reading your posts of the CVN. I have come across many other families who married into the Asbury family, which are mentioned in the CVN. Thanks for your efforts Michelle. Ed Asbury W3AEU in Bokeelia, FL
Michelle, always read your columns but haven't found anything about my line but still enjoy them. Got a question, is there another paper close to Richlands that may have obits for the year 1952. I have been looking for the death date of my grandmother's brother William R. Mabe and have been informed that a William R. Mabe died in December 21 1952. He was living in Richlands, Maiden Springs dist. in the 1930 census. Can't seem to find anyone who has any information. Anything you could do to help would be greatly appreciated. Clifford Sands Madison, N.C. csandscm@vnet.net
For Clifford Sands I went to Richlands High School in 1951 with a William Curtis Mabe, senior and Otis Mabe, Sophomore. A search of those names and addresses for our class reunion did not have Bills name address listed. I tried but maybe you can now look these names up. One or both may be of the family you are researching. Bob Crabtree. Clifford wrote: Michelle, always read your columns but haven't found anything about my line but still enjoy them.
