    3. Hello List, As a native West Virginian, and as a former publisher of two quarterly newsletters, I think this is more than likely a scam (possibly not even from WV) but I am more inclined to think this is some one's idea of a joke. Now that it is "politically incorrect" to slur ethnic groups, it seems that WV and other southern states have become targets for this type of "humor." I choose to ignore it. Dodie Browning

    3. Hi listers, If you know anything about the West Virginia Genealogy Connection, please respond. I received the below letter in the mail yesterday and was concerned enough about it legitimacy that I thought I should post. If it is real, I apologize, but I've never seen anything so poorly written or full of typos from a Genealogy service. I'm afraid it is a scam either to get the dues money or to acquire a bunch of mother's maiden names for ID purposes. The letter as you can see, did not contain any contact names or phone numbers, or even an address other than a PO box. Thanks for your attention. -Payton Letter text, complete with typos (including "geneology"), grammatical and punctuation errors: WEST VIRGINIA GENEOLOGY CONNESTION P.O. BOX 154 MILTON, W. 2. Hi List, A friend who is very reliable and up to date on things like this says it is definitely a scam. In fact, he received a letter several weeks ago with almost the same identical language. Identity theft is on the rise, and many businesses use your mother's maiden name for identification purposes. My vote is better safe than sorry. Diana

    3. Dave, I saw the information from Ed Asbury. I sent him a message and asked if he was a descendant. I still have not figured out how the Miller name ties in with Charity Vandike. Blanche Claypool has her listed as Charity (Miller) Claypool. I found James Claypool and wife Mary living in Grundy County Missouri with the Vandikes there. It says both were born in VA and James was 30 which would make him the right age for Jeremiah and Charity's son. Bev -----Original Message----- From: D. M. Mentions his grand children Amanda Asbury and Eli C. Asbury; to his daughter Elizabeth McGuire. He then mentions Ephriam Claypool and James Claypool "your brothers" to assist in the division of the estate, then to James Claypool, Senr. brother of testor. Testor then says; "Jeremiah B. 3. Bev, I am not sure - the LDS site does list Charity as Miles mother. I don't understand why Miles would name a child after his father's first wife. I have no documentation on this - if there is a published book with documentation - I would accept that. I will always take a written document over supposition and faulty members. I haven't done extensive research in this area. However, I do have a Claypool Cousin who has done the esearch - you might contact Sam at: [email protected] He might be able to help. Happy Hunting. Jacob Snider was born in 1805 in Burks Garden, Tazewell County, Virginia. Jacob's ,first wife, Caroline, probably died around 1840 and he married Karen Davidson around 1841. They lived in Russell County. VI for a while and in Johnson County, TN. Jacob and Karen had four children,Francis E. (b. 1843), Virginia C. (b. 1845), Caroline V. (b. 1852), and Robert H. 3. According to the lineage of Blanche Claypool in the "Archives of the Pioneers of Tazewell County Virginia" Miles Claypool is the son of Jeremiah Claypool and Charity Vandyke. 3. Hello List, We need volunteers to help with the African American Heritage collection of records for the Tazewell County USGenweb Page. This project was initiated by Candy Parent, my predecessor, and there is a need for projects such as this. Right now, there are only two people who are actively working on the Tazewell County project, Rodney Barnett and myself. For now, we especially would like to have records for all "people of color" from census records. The 1870 census was the first census where slaves are shown by their individual surnames and as families. We also need the names from earlier census records - these records would have listed "free" blacks only. Thanks in advance for your help.
