    3. Karen, There is a lot of information on the Belcher surname in three books, Archives of the Pioneers of Tazewell County, VA by Netti Schreiner-Yantis and Annals of the Tazewell, County, VA by John Newton Harman, Sr. Another excellent book is: History fo Tazewell County and Southwest Virginia 1748-1920 by William C. Pendleton. I purchased these books, but I have seen them in my local Library also. If your local library doesn't have them they could get them on loan from another library. They are worth reading if you have connections to Tazewell County, they are loading with information. 3. I just looked in my book Annals of Tazewell County, by Harman and it mentions a Clamantine Harman married John Christian January 7, 1857, Vol II, page 17. In Vol I page 146, it shows Guy T. Harrison married Nancy (spelled) Bruster 10 Mar 1850 by David Payne There are several references to Harrison, Cartmill, & Brewester in this book. Also purchased through the Tazewell County Historical Society. Betty -----Original Message----- From: C. 2. In regard to the link to the Tazewell Historical Society in the message from Tamara Altizer. I tried the link and got a message that the address had changed to http://tchs.netscope.net When I tried it , the message came back " HOST UNKNOWN unable to locate server named "tchs.netscope.net" the server does not have a DNS entry..".etc. I tried adding the www after the double backslash but it didn' t help. What's missing from the address? Help! Viola Jordan [email protected]

    3. Doris, I bought the book through the Tazewell County Historical Society. It doesn't list any of the the surnames you mentioned except Harrison. There is a Howery-Harrison Cemetery located in Maiden Spring Creek near Thompson Valley. The oldest Harrison appears to be Thomas Harrison b. 25 Feb 1855 d. 10 Apr 1942, Martha A.F. Harrison b. 10 Oct 1856 d. 30 Mar 1929. Other Harrison's listed in the book, but not necesssarly in this cemetery are: Columbus Harvey, Eleanor, Glenn Effler, Hannah, James, James P., Col Joseph H., Julian Virginia, Martha A. Mose B., Nancy, Two other Thomas & a Thomas W. If you want further information on any of these let me know. Keep in mind that most of the cemeteries listed in this book are very old and most say that several of the stones are sunk or no markers at all. Betty -----Original Message----- From: C. 3. Doris, Like you I was only there a day and half. I had been to a family reunion in Lewisburg, WV. It rained when I there too but I trudged through the Maplewood Cemetery. Didn't have time to search out some cemeteries I really would like to have located. Anyway, my surnames are Crockett, Witten, Cecil, Davidson, Peery. I think I have connecting lines to just about every family in Tazewell. I would be happy to share information. There is a Harmon connection I will look and see if I have anything on a Clementine. 3. Diane, I bought the book from the Tazewell Co. Historical Society. It is really a good book. Lists 160 old cemeteries. I don't remember how much it costs but you could check with them. I know it was reasonable. Claypool Hill Cemetery - It says that there was a number of unmarked sunken graves and several fieldstones. Here are the ones you requsted: There wasn't a Maggie E. Williams listed. 1. Hurst Scott Marker: (This must be the funeral home) Deborah K. Richardson 1950-1950 2. Hurst Scott Marker: Jerry Neal Richardson 1951- 1951 3. Carter's Chapel Marker: Samuel P. Richardson 1919- 1944 4. Carter's Chapel Marker: Audrey L. Richardson 1924 -1944 5. Charlie Williams 1904- 1936 Hope this helps, Betty -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Monday, May 15, 2000 6:47 AM Subject: Re: [VATAZEWE] Claypool Family Cemetery >Hi Betty, > >I'm looking for the graves of several people. >Maggie E. 3. Betty, Thanks for checking. The Vol. 1, page 146, showing Guy T. Harrison marrying Nancy Brewster 1850 is my third gr. grandfather. His wife, Clementine Harmon, (first wife) died just before 1850 and am trying to document her death and possible burial place. She was born in Washington County and married Guy T. Harrison. 3. I don't have any informstion on the cemetery, but I am researching Belchers from Tazewell & Buchanan Counties. The line I am researching is: Will Belcher (m Charlotte Taylor) son of General Lee Belcher (m Nancy Jane Lee) son of George C Belcher (m Matilda Lester) son of Samuel H Belcher (m Nancy Maddax) son of John Belcher (m Mary Monk) son of Jesse Belcher (m Elizabeth Roberts) I haven't proved all of this myself yet, & the oldest generations are based mainly on information I found in books, or got from other researchers. I live in NJ (this is my late husband's family), & it's not easy for me to get to VA to do courthouse research. If you are researching these lines, I'd like to exchange information with you. 3. Betty, Thanks for writing. I have the book on Tazewell County by Harmon. Clementine Harmon was married to Guy T. Harrison. He was born in 1805. His father was Thomas Harrison who married Hannah Dennis. I have Cartmills married to the Davidson and Peery Line. I also have the Comptons married to Cartmill. Like you, I think we must be related to the whole county. Just any clues will be appreciated. 3. Betty, How can I get a copy of the book you mentioned, SOME OLD CEMETERIES? Would like to check out a few of my surnames: Harrison, Cartmill, VanNatter, and Belchers. 3. My husband and I were in Tazewell for only one afternoon and it certainly wasn't enough time. We did visit the courthouse which was just great and went over to the Library and found a couple of books with surnames like Harrison, Cartmill, and Brewester. Wish we had more to visit. It was also raining and not able to visit any cemeteries which I really wanted to do. I am looking for burian place of Guy T. Harrison and his 1st wife, Clementine Harmon. Wasn't able to do so. Clementine Harmon died before 1850 and Guy T. Harrison, my third great grandfather, married Nancy Brewster. Would be happy to exchange information with you. Tazewell a quaint little place and just wish I had more time to see more. We did see a few buffalo on the way out. Really nifty. 2. Hi Betty, I'm looking for the graves of several people. Maggie E. Williams, died in 1906. Samuel Paul Richardson and wife Audry Berry Richardson, both died in 1944. Charles Williams, died in 1936. Where did you get this book? Sounds like something I'd love to have. Thanks for your help. Diana

    3. Scott, I was in Tazewell a couple of years ago and there is a lot to see. They have one of the nicest courthouses I have ever been too. You can spend weeks there, lots of room to spread out and a ton of information. Also you should visit Maplewood Cemetery, it's very easy to find. Some of the smaller cemeteries are not so easy. Also the historical society was only open one day a week and I beleive it was Tuesday or Wednesday and I wasn't going to be there, so I missed that. Of course Crap Orchards museum is a must. 3. In the book, Tazewell County Virginia, Some Old Cemeteries", page 131, it is listed as the Claypool Hill Cemetery. There are a number of listings. Who are you looking for?
