Hello Everyone, I was in Southwest Virginia this past weekend for a family wedding and stopped at Green Hills Memory Gardens where my dad is buried and saw the Claypool Cemetery next door and went over to it and noticed that there were several headstones but none with the name of Claypool. I will be going back there in a few months if anyone would like for me to check it for them for anyone they are looking for that might be buried there. The address for the Archives Pages is http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/va/tazewell.htm I think the address Charles listed is for the County Page, which also has great info, but is a different type of web site than the Archives. I am not familiar with WebTV and how it works. If you still can't get in, do you have a phone number you can call for technical support from the folks at WebTV? Good luck! Jeannie Watts Tazewell Co. Can anyone get information from USGenWeb's Tazewell County VA Archives? It looks like a real treasure trove, but for weeks now my WebTV keeps telling me that there are "technical difficulties", and I can't pull up any of those great subjects. Is there a way? Virginia in California.
Virginia, Have you tried going to: www.rootsweb.com/~vatazewe/ and scrolling down to find the archives you seek? Charles

No I haven't. I don't have any Yost in my line that I know of. I do know that there was a Yost in my Caraway line in Daviess Co., MO. Some distant cousin married a Yost. Yes, I have a little, but without any luck. I know it's one place I need to dig deeper. I have Mary Yost b. 1807 m. John Gose. Is this the connection you are refering to? I don't know where they were married or their children. Carol >Have you looked in Wythe County Virginia? One of the YOST family married >into my GOSE family. > >Susan
Hello, From what I have pieced together, I am a direct descendent of Dennis Howery and Mary Six. Their son Reese, his son Wade, his daughter Ethel. Ethel was my grandmother. I have very little info on them and was very excited to hear about the cemetery. I hope to go to Tazewell again soon, where is this cemetery located? Would love to hear more about Mary Six and her family. Do you know if she was a native American? Some of the Howery family is buried in Maplewood Cemetery, Tazewell. Some of the others are buried at Pisgah Methodist Church Cemetery in the North Tazewell area. Please let me know where this book may be purchased. Thank you, Deborah
Betty, Thanks for checking. The Andrew P. Boling listed must be a grandson of my Andrew. My Andrew P. Boling was born circa 1837 and fought during the Civil War. He was still in listed in Tazewell in the 1880 census - I haven't checked later ones. I really am interested in his mother's maiden name. I have been unable to find the parents of his father nor the maiden name of his mother. I know I am a little late with this --my computer died and it took me several days to get a new one built. Fortunately, I was able to copy my hard drive and didn't lose any info. However, I am sure I am related to just about everyone in Tazewell County prior to 1900. In addition to the names listed at the bottom of this message, I also have Harrison and several others. Someone was asking about James Brown and Esther. Is that Esther Goff? I think I may have a little on them --contact me and I will check further. Think they are the parents of one of my Mary Browns. I will try to catch up on everything soon. Have a great week-end everyone. Carol, The only John Yost is a John W. Yost b. 1859 -d. 1935 Buried in the Concord Methodist Church Cemetery one mile west of Gratton. This is a fairly large cemetery, with a few other Yost buried there, all died after 1900. If you can stand to do one more lookup.... I am seeking John Yost (m. Christina Woland) who is reported to have died in 1876, or 1866, depending on the source. It was definitly after 1860, as he is on that census, aged 83. Many thanks Carol
I am seeking information on Edd Childress, born ca 1882, married Minnie McGuire in Washington County, Va. They are listed in the 1920 Washington County census with children Mary age 5, EddJr., 3 and Caroline age 1 7/12. He is not listed in either the 1900 or 1910 Washington County censuses. Edd may have migrated from Tazewell County between 1910 and 1920. Any information is greatly appreciated. Y'All Come, Bill Childress
This area of coal mining country is really trying to locating family members that followed work in the late 1800s and early 1900s. I am trying to find information on my grandmother Mary Margaret MARTIN, born in Russell County in 1868. Her mother was Sarah Jane ? and father is to believed to be James H. MARTIN. At some time and some place after Mary Margaret's birth Sarah Jane married John DRIVER. They had at least two children, one was Leonard DRIVER and Katie DRIVER. Mary Margaret married John Leander HARRIS, they had Virginia HARRIS Chilhowie, Smyth County, VA. Virginia grew up in Sinking Waters, Tazewell County. Katie DRIVER married Roman JUSTICE and moved to Old Town, KY. I have a post card she sent to her mother, Sarah Jane DRIVER addressed Grundy, VA, in 1912. Leonard DRIVER and Sarah Jane both lived in Iager, WV in 1929. My big mystery is the surname for Sarah Jane. I was once certain that it was STOOTS but another family had information contrary to what I had and was pretty well proven, so I have had to re-group my efforts and have come up with nothing. Any information at all would be greatly appreciated. I live in CA now and can not get back to VA for hands on research. Robert Crabtree (formerly of Tazewell County) [email protected]
