I was first introduced to the stories of Jessie Ruth Guffy when her daughter-in-law posted one on a Rootsweb list. I wrote to Lois, asking permission to post it to another list. "Yes," came the answer, "would you like to see any of the others?" One after another, they came, each more engaging than the one before, on every subject from camp meetings to home remedies (see list below). I was thrilled when Lois said I could share them by placing them online because, though Jessie Guffy grew up in Oklahoma in the late 1800's, her stories are so similar to the ones my mother told about her parents' lives in SW MS at about the same time. These wonderful stories give a glimpse into the everyday lives of our ancestors, I believe, no matter the location, in rural America during that time. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did.
