Hi Cathy; My family also has roots there. JOHN BAIRD lived there. I live in far away Utah, and Cabin Point is a long way away. If they have a cemetery listing of those interred there---Would it be too much trouble to see if there are any Bairds there? I'll reimburse you for any expense. Thank you Fred baird P.S. I have NO idea where the cemetery is. On Tue, 11 Nov 2003 10:39:39 EST CathyJane@aol.com writes: > My family has its roots in Surry County and I will be visiting a > cousin in > Courtland this week. My family has its roots in Surry County and I will be visiting a cousin in Courtland this week. I have read mentions of a cemetery called "Old Cabin Point Cemetery" and would like to go there since many of my family lived in the Cabin Point area. Could anyone tell me where the cemetery is? I am researching POWERS/COLLINS. So many of people from the CULLUM line married into the POWERS family. Almost all of the CULLUMs came from Albemarle Parish, Surry Co VA. My great grandfather Hamlin COLLINS was born in 1805 in Virginia. Since so many people connected together came from Surry Co VA, I though maybe Hamlin COLLINS might also have been from that area. Looking for information on Drury COLLIER, b. abt 1740-45? Brunswick Co VA; d. 1809 NC. Am trying to find out who he married, who his children were ( one son named Drury, possibly a daughter Sarah ; 3 other sons and one other daughter). Particularly interested in finding out if he had a daughter named Rebecca Collier, b. abt 1783 NC who married (probably in Lincoln Co NC) Reuben LOLLAR. Timeline for Drury Collier: 13 Nov 1759 - named in the will of his father William Collier in Brunswick Co VA. (note William was son of John Collier JR and Grace? LUCAS.) 28 Oct 1776 - Purchased 215 ac from John and Barnett Randle on Saw Scaffold Branch in Brunswick Co VA. 02 June 1778 - posted security for the estate of Benjamin Warren in Brunswick Co VA. (could his wife have been a Warren ? There are other Warrens who intermarried with the Colliers) Colonial America, 1607-1789 Census Index shows Drury Collier in Montgomery Co NC in 1780 1781 - witnessed the will of Christopher Christian in Montgomery Co NC. 1790 Anson Co NC, Fayette district: Collier, Drury........2-3-3-0-8 1793 - Witnessed the will of his cousin Also Collier in Northampton Co NC. 1800 Anson Co NC: Drury Collier .... 00001 / 00000 1809 Lincoln Co NC - will of Drury Collier filed. (listed in NC Wills; A Testator Index , by Mitchell, pg 103) For whatever reason, this will was never probated in Lincoln Co; could be a copy from another county because he had interests or heirs in Lincoln Co, or perhaps there wasn't enough estate left to probate if he had deeded his estate to heirs prior to his death.) In the 1810 census, Drury Collier (JR) is in Lincoln Co; he married 1817 in Lincoln Co, Rebecca SADLER. This family went to Perry Co MO. ) Any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks. I am looking for information on the Barlows from Surry, VA (Bacon's Castle). They were around in the early 1900s. The head of household had several marriages. Any information about Barlows from this area would be appreciated.
How do I access anyof the information cited in the messages? -David B. Mitchell
I am researching the name McGuriman. My father was William Franklin McGuriman and was from the Ben's Church area of VA. I don't know his mother's name. His father was John McGuriman, I think.
Can anyone tell me if what days and hours the Surry Historical Society Library is open to the public? Thank you. W. M. Mallory
Researching Surry Co. ancestors with the following surnames: BAILEY, HARRIS, HOLT, MUNFORD, REGAN, UZZELL Trying to establish connections to HOLT of Southampton Co., and HARRIS & REGAN/RIGGAN of Warren Co., NC. Matt HARRIS, Richmond, VA
Three Creeks (or Three Creek) is not now in Brunswick Co. The headwaters lie in that portion of Greensville Co. formed from Brunswick Co., which in turn was formed from Sussex Co., formed from Surry Co. Most of the water course lies in Southampton Co., where it empties into the Nottoway River. Southampton Co. was formed from Isle of Wight Co. A portion of Greensville Co. was later formed from Southampton Co. Matt HARRIS BTW- There is no connection between Albemarle Parish & Albemarle Co.
I am also interested in the SPRATLEY family and their ties to the Delk, Faulcon, Cocke, Wheadon and Shackelford families in Surry and Isle of Wight counties. Thanks, Sue Perrault
I am interested in the subject names in southside Va. as well as nothern Va. for Simpson and Tullos. Thanks

Three Creek(s) empties into the Nottoway River about 1.5 miles west of the community of Sebrell in Southhampton County, Virginia. Southhampton was derived from Isle of Wight in 1749. Cleve
I remember reading something like that. I'll try to find the source in my notes. As to my supposed ancestor or brother of my ancestor, I find him fascinating, yes, but I don't consider him a hero figure. After all, he is credited for bringing the English to Ireland en force, though they would have gotten there eventually anyway. I would never have been born, nor would America had been formed, if Cromwell hadnt' done his dirty deeds a few centuries later. -Mark Quoting VASURRY-D-request@rootsweb.com: > Return-Path: <VASURRY-D-request@rootsweb.com> > Delivered-To: mmurphy@our-town.com > Received: (qmail 27351 invoked from network); 19 Sep 2003 12:04:08 > -0000 > Received: from unknown (HELO votis.our-town.com) (206.64.104.18) > by otis.our-town.com with SMTP; 19 Sep 2003 12:04:08 -0000 > Received: (qmail 15169 invoked by uid 506); 19 Sep 2003 12:04:08 -0000 > Received: from VASURRY-D-request@rootsweb.com by votis.our-town.com with > qmail-scanner-0.94 (uvscan: v4.1.20/v4106. . John Freeman, d. 1800 Wake Co., NC, supposedly came from VA, per his g-grandson of SC. All clues I get from my records indicate kinship with the old Surry Co., VA Freemans & with William Freeman, m. Elizabeth Bridges, both from Surry Co., VA, but who wound up in Franklin Co., NC next door to Wake. Also, perhaps kin to an Edward Freeman who was in Franklin Co. There was an Edward in Surry Co. & one in Brunswick Co., Va. One Edward witnessed a deed with John in 1785 in Wake Co. and some of his children were in Wake Co. John Freeman m. Martha Linn, d/o James Linn who died in Wake Co. about 1797. Previous residence of her family is unknown. A male Freeman cousin is taking part in the Freeman DNA project, with the first 12 markers producing a perfect match and a possible 3 more, but the last 13 markers go haywire, Thanks for any help out there.
