Hello George and all, I have a John Mason who married my ancestress, Priscilla Wells/Wills, in Granville County, NC 26 July 1792. I am aware of, and a descendant of many families who migrated down from Surry County into the border counties of northern North Carolina, but I have not been able to locate any kinsmen of my John Mason in Granville County. Are you aware of any missing John Masons in your family group. I noticed that you mentioned your John Mason as a senior. My John would have been born ca 1770/75. I have documented my Surry Carters back to Richard (1766-1851) and Sarah Little Carter. Richards' parents were Richard (circa 1720) and Mourning ?. This branch of the tree very probaby descends from the immigrant William Carter (1600-1655) and wife Avis Purtley. Related Surry County families are Bell, Carstarphan, Crafford, (Crump on my mother's side), Drewry, Grizzard, Gwaltney, Little and Riggan. Other neighbors from the Blackwater Swamp community on the Surry/Isle of Wight borderland are: Batts, Brown, Holt, Savidge, Wall and Warren. Richard Carter's son George Lewis Carter (1802-1843) and wife, Nancy W. Gwaltney trekked westward, settling in Nicholas County, KY in the mid-1830s. Looking for anything on Alexander Booth (M. Surry County 1800, d. 1827) one of the sons of Beverly Booth and for anything on his wife Tempy (Temperance) Hix, daughter of Joseph Hix. Joseph Hix owned land adjacent to Beverly Booth's land. He apparently died before 1815 because the land was sold by a George Hicks, about whom I cannot find hide nor hair.
