I saw this first site on another list........ This is one of the most interesting lists I have seen in a while. This is a list of children ordered to be sent to Virginia 1618-1642 from the United Kingdom prior to the Mayflower's arrival here. Thought this might be of interest to you. http://www.linkline.com/personal/xymox/families/childva.htm It will also lead to to the home page of the First Families of America. I found several of my ancestors listed. http://www.firstfamilies.org/db/dbindex.htm Audrey Orlando, FL
These variations are found in "Virginia in 1720: A Recontructed Census" a lovely volume put together by TLC Genealogy of Miami FL. As to Surry Co., the only name was: Scarbow Ann & Edward Surry Co. Deeds, Wills, etc. 1715 - 1730 reell 4 (LVA microfiche reel number). 13 Rogers in same volume; known in Surry Co. good hunting, Jeannie

Deed from Daniel Davis & wife Elizabeth to William Murfrey, 24 Dec 1716, Isle of Wight, VA Some interesting names & relationships mentioned here, plus a very long-winded approach to deed writing. Some other names: Everits, Allan, Allen, Branch, Powell, John Murfrey, Hutchins, Lightfoot and that pesky ol' Will Rag(s)dale. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~freshnup/markmurph/ -- Mark A. Thought everyone could use a source for county structured maps so I'll pass it along. Main site also has demographics. Of course, this is current information. They do not have old county maps. http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/printmaps.html Audrey

<A HREF="http://www.rootsweb.com/~vaschsm/">Click here: Surry County, Virginia, Historical Society and Museums, Inc.</A> In 1927, my great grandfather A.W. Bohannan wrote 'Old Surry' based on oral history he collected as he talked to the people of Surry County. My Uncle Bo (Gordon Bohannan) and other members of our family have had the book republished and it is now available through the Surry County Historical Society. An index has been added that was not available in previous printings of the book. Please visit the Surry County, Virginia, Historical Socitey web site (see link above) and click on the "What's New" section to get more details on the book and how to order it. If you're in the area you can also pick up copies at the Historical Society office and other businesses in the county. Let us know if you find it interesting and/or useful since we have a limited number of copies and would like to plan ahead to get more if and when we need them. Thank you, Elizabeth Veserat
I see a John and William listed as being in the Lancaster Co., Orders, No. 6, 1713 - 1721 reel 27 at the Library of VA, both on page 320. Also, I see a Thomas, New kent, The Vestry Book of St. paul's parish 1706 - 1786 (book by CG Chamberlayne) page 267 & 270. These are all that I see in the wonderful TLC Genealogy publication of "Virginia in 1720: A Reconstructed Census". good hunting, Jeannie
I'm interested in any information list members can provide about John Barlow whose will was written in Surry Co in 1727 and any of his descendants. From the will I have the following names - sons John, Nathaniel, William, wife Sarah, and if I understand the wording of the will correctly John Barlow the will writer was a son of an earlier William Barlow. Thank you for any clues you can send my way. Phyllis Solter -
More Murphys than you can shake a stick at. I've been working on posting the files of Beverly White, quite possibly the greatest Southern Murphy researcher of the modern age. Many Murphys and others from Virginia & North Carolina. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~freshnup/markmurph/ Check 'em out! Thanks for the valuable resource, Beverly. -- Mark A. g Hello My name is Sarah and I am looking for any information that I can get on my grandmother. Her name is Ardilla Thomas Long. She was called Dealie all her life. She was born in Surry County, I don't know if she was born in Surry county in North Carolina or Virginia. I was told she was born at the top of a mountain in 1899 in Surry county. Her father was named William Frank Thomas and her mother was Littie Cook Thomas. She married Manuel H. Long is July 1920. She was 21 years old. Manuel was from Surry county, NC. They lived in Dodson and Mount Airy at the times of their childrens births. I live at the coast in North Carolina so it is hard to do research. Any help or information would be great. NC and the surrounding counties. If you know where your grandmother died, you should be able to acquire a copy of her death certificate which should give information about her birthplace, and perhaps who her parents were. The certificate would have been issued in the county where she died, not in the county of residence, if the two were different. Good luck to you, John Fox Winston Salem, NC
