    1. [VASTAFFO-L] Quick Response to Stafford County Records Question
    2. Hi to the list and many thanks for quick answer. I suspected as much when the beginning of the reel # 3 for Deeds Libre LL began with a note that "pages were destroyed during war" So, I used the Land Tax Records and was successful in tracking my guy and documenting he was the same James CAVE who moved to Alabama around 1838. The Land Tax Books for 1834 - 1850 gave me more clues...some of which were not legible...so I submit these to y'all again for assistance. 1. 1837 James CAVES, whose residence in then Alabama, is shown owning 214 acres, description is "Hartwood". Explanation column is not clear, but this is what I think it says, "Building assessed at 300 Rob't [Rads] gen to pay tax" [Rads] is my best attempt to read this as very light and seems to extend off the microfimed edge of page. It could be Rod???. My questions - would y'all think gen is for gentleman and why would another man be paying only the building assessment? I saw no value of buildings in the previous years taxation. Suggestions - ideas, PLEASE!!! 2. I saw no other CAVE taxed during these years...with no building taxed, would this mean he had no house on the land? If so, that would put him living in another county at that time! Thanks Alice in Fluvanna
