    1. [VASTAFFO-L] TOLSON and KEYS
    2. I do not have much to add to what Donna wrote about James J. TOLSON, but I do have some information about his wives. His first wife was Mary E. KEYS, daughter of William KEYS. I do not know whether his 2nd wife, Annie E., was her sister. As you will see below, there is a problem with this. Alice Virginia KEYS and Annie E. KEYS were daughters of William C. KEYS and his wife Verenia. In the 1860 census of Dumfries District, Prince William County, Virginia, William C. Keys (22) is a farmer with $170 in personal property. Verenia is 27. Mary E. Keys is 2 and Harriet Keys is one month old. The 1870 census of Prince William County lists William C. Keys (34) as a farm laborer. "Salina F. Keys" (27) was keeping house and raising the children: Marietta (13), Harriett (10), Wallace (8), Ann Eliz. (4), and Alice (3). The 1880 census of Prince William County shows the girls as Annie Keys (14) and Alice Va. Keys (12). I do not have marriage information for Ann Elizabeth and Alice. Alice died before 1910, when the wife listed with James J. Tolson in the 1910 census is Annie E., and she has 4 children under the age of 8. PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VIRGINIA, BIRTHS, 1912-1917 by Ronald Ray Turner lists Alma Lucile Tolson, born 30 July 1912 in Coles District, Prince William County; father was James J. Tolson (43, a farmer, born in Prince William) and mother was Elizabeth A. (Keys) Tolson (36, born in Prince William); seventh child, six living. NOTE: This information indicates that Elizabeth A. was born in 1875-1876, a full decade after the Anne E. who was a child of William C. KEYS. Can anyone out there straighten this out?
