Just a note: I was watching all of the stuff about aquia church last year with much interest and wishing i had any reason to have people there so i could go and see it!! Guess what, last October on my very first trip to Virginia ( made by car) my friend accidentally happened upon this church and I said, "Oh i just have to stop and see it!!" WE did, and we found it open being cleaned by some very nice parishioners there who gave us a very nice run down of information about the church. It was indeed quite pretty and i asked about the different heights of the pews around the church and why some of them seemed to be built in box form instead of in rows. Guess, the answer!! The church was taken over by the union forces in Civil War and was utilized as a stables. THe frequent bombings in the area made the horses so nervous they chewed the wood pews down quite a bit!! When it came time for the war's end, there was no money to refurbish the pews so they were just sawed off to match each other and they remain so today!! What a beautiful story!! Just thought i would share that one incase you have relatives who went to church there for years and you have no chance to go there yet!
