My ggfather died 29 Jan 1906 at 37 years, 8 months, 27 days. 19060129 - 370827 =18689302 - 8870 18680432 April 32, 1868. Sorry, April only has 30 days. One important thing to mention, on this topic: In computing birth dates from age at death, remember that people didn't age backwards. First, they aged all their years, to their final anniversary on birth, then all their final full months, to their final 'monthiversary"; then their final days. A person born 29 February 1896 turned 1 year old on 1 March 1897, 4 years old on 1 March 1900, and 104 years old on 29 February 2000. A person who turned 4 years, 0 months, 0 days on 1 March 1900 was born EITHER on 29 February OR 1 March 1896; many more ambiguous ages exist due to 28, 29, 30 and 31 -day months. I found this on http://olivetreegenealogy.com website. How do you figure a birthdate? Suppose the person died May 06, 1889, at the age of 71 years, 7 months, 9 days. Write the year, month, day as: 18890506 (1889, May, 06) Subtract the age at death: 710709 (71 yrs, 7 mos, 09 days) This gives the figure: 18179797 Now subtract 8870: 8870 The result is: 18170927 (1817/09/27 1817 September 27)

At rootsweb.com, worldconnect, there a John Kenny who married an Agnus Berryman. Does anyone know the actual marriage date, and what they families they are from? George V Hilburn Hillb-4@Juno.com
In the Stafford County tax lists were Kennys, namely, John Kenny, John Kenny Jr, Thomas Kenny, Andrew Kenny, and Ann Kenny. The years were 1783 to 1800. It is possible that two of them, Ann Kenny and Andrew Kenny move over to Fauquier County. If it is the same Andrew Kenny, he was even married in Fauquier County to Nancy Horton, 1789, bondsman, and possible grandfather being Jacob Stadler. Is anyone familiar with these families? 1850 Stafford Co., VA Census page 24 Sept. 13 Household# 404 George W. Lightner 43 born in Maryland Mary A. 33 she and the children born in VA. Virginia H. 13 George 11 Mary C. 8 Margaret Robinson 23 I could not make out Geo. w. Lightner's occupation it started with a P I don't know if it said Priest or Parish, or ? June
My records show: Ministers - Fredericksburg & Stafford County: For George W. Lightner year 1858 - Stafford Methodist Epis. South. Methodist Episcopal Church South (Fredericksburg) records available to the public are photo-duplicated and are at the CRRL. These records extend from 1871 and appear to be fairly complete. The church's history as congregation in Fredericksburg began in 1848. Except for the time when reports were not made because the church was within Federal lines in 1863 & 64, the congregation was active and still is. Located on Hanover Street. June
Any clue what church GW Lightner served, though? Like, where I could find a church record to go with the county record? BTW the difficult handwriting makes me think that "Francis" as transcribed here might have been "Travers" First time, best I could see it was "Yxavier" Was "Francis" directly from the book, or from the microfilm? Age 35? The microfilm looks like it could say 35 or 32, and 32 is more like what the census says later. (The floor of the 2 may be very faint. I can't see a hat on the 5 if it's a 5) In a message dated 13-Feb-02 03:49:56 Greenwich Standard Time, Cpzb4@aol.com writes: > Stafford Marriages: > > William Dent son of Francis & Anna Dent > age: 25 occupation Miller > Place of Residence: Hope Haven > Married: Mary F. My ancestors, William DENT (b. abt 1838, s/o Travers DENT and Ann) and Louisa BUSSLE (b. Sep 1845, d/o Charles BUSSLE & Lucinda) m. 27 Dec 1866 in Stafford County, by G.W. Lightner, Methodist minister. Does anyone know what church he would have been serving? Do you know if they have records of marriages?
Thanks everyone I did find Sallie Ann Snead. I had thought it was Sneed but it was Snead. Sallie Ann Snead, abt 1831 in Fluvanna Co. Va. and died Nov. 1869, married John Lawson Brooks, b. about 1815 in Stafford Co. Va. and died about 1905 in Stafford. They are buried on Boze's Land which was called at one time Myrtle Grove. It is a dencely populated with trees and the only time you can see the graves are in the Winter. Its very close to Brooks Landing in the Widewater area. Now I need to look for John Lawson's parents and again thanks alot. Cathy
When the death certificate is filled out, the family member or the clerk could have put the wrong name down as the mother, by mistake. It has happened. I would go with the census. My father put his grandfather down as Malvery and it was Mallory. And there was a Malvery as well as Mallory. He didn't know his father's family that well, because they didn't keep in touch with them. He was trying to fill in the death certificate buy memory from childhood.
Here is what I have. J. Lawson Brooks married Sallie? They had a daughter named Letishia . Now one of these two women was a Dickinson and the other was suspected to come from the Sneed Family. My Grandfather carries the Sneed name in hs name ,Theodore Sneed Brooks Sr. I have trying to find out if William and Lousia had a daughter named Letishia or Sallie. I belive that Sallie was a Sneed, b. abt. 1825 and Letishia was the daughter of Sallie and a Dickinson before she married J. Lawson Brooks. Sallie was pregnant when she married J. Lawson Brooks. Census shows a Lawson Brooks with a wife named Salli and a daughter 3mos. old in the 1850 Stafford Co. Va. Daughters name was Letishia On my grandfathers death certificate it shows Father was Lawson Brooks and Mother was Letishia no maiden name Can anyone help or make a suggestion as to what may have happeneed cathy

The age given does not match the information above, but Louisa may be the Louisa A. SNEAD [sic] listed in the 1910 census of Stafford County at http://us-gen.com/va/stafford/census/1910/1910censupg127.htm The Stafford County website does not seem to have much additional information about this family, but there are some other SNEADs on the same page who may be related. I did not search their names, as this is not one of my families. But I do highly recommend the Stafford County website to ANYONE researching Stafford County families: http://us-gen.com/va/stafford/ Also, as the note at the bottom of the posting says, one can search this list's archived messages. http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl I do not know whether the Louisa listed in the 1910 census of Stafford County is "your" Louisa. She appears to have been born around 1835. I think she is this woman, already a widow and living in Fluvanna County (from the LDS transcription of the 1880 census): Census Place: Columbia, Fluvanna, Virginia Source: FHL Film 1255365 National Archives Film T9-1365 Page 410C Relation Sex Marr Race Age Birthplace Louisa SNEED Self F W W 45 VA Occ: Farming Fa: VA Mo: VA Lucy SNEED Dau F S W 27 VA Occ: Teaching School Fa: VA Mo: VA Emily SNEED Dau F S W 21 VA Occ: At Home Fa: VA Mo: VA Rosa SNEED Dau F S W 20 VA Occ: At Home Fa: VA Mo: VA William SNEED Son M S W 16 VA Occ: At School Fa: VA Mo: VA If that is "your" Louisa, the family may have lived mostly in Fluvanna Co rather than Stafford County. P.S. The Stafford County site's list of people buried at Aquia Episcopal Church says Louisa A. Sneed was born in 1833. http://us-gen.com/va/stafford/cemeteries/aquiaepiscem.htm Perhaps the stone was hard to read. Good luck in your search. Laura
