    3. Joyce, I also have a rather extensive list from the personal tax lists from 1782-1829. These lists have been re-organized by dates so I could determine who was living near each other. However, my lists only cover surnames related to my families, so I'm not sure how helpful they might be. I did copy down Willsons. The Willsons I found are listed at the end of this message. My oldest known ancestor was Reuben Corder who became the guardian of Martin and Elizabeth (Corder) Pence in Champaign County, OH in 1830. They m. in Shenandoah County, VA in 1812. In 1824, a Martha Corder m. David Willson in Champaign County, OH. In attempting to find Reuben's parents, I've also been looking at the Willsons, hoping the Willsons were inter-marrying with other extended family surnames.. The following are very brief Will Abstracts that mostly only name the family members mentioned in the wills. Several Margarets are mentioned. However, they all appear to be married and none to a Hupp. John Willson of Berkeley County, (W)VA was associated with the founding of the Hopewell MM House in Frederick County, VA. Members seemed to live a long ways away. John Wallson Levan Willson John Willson Wm Willson Edward Willson 1792-B Tax List Wm Boothe for John Wilson I've often wonderered why an unrelated person might pay taxes for someone else. Perhaps they are paying for their indentured servants. Does anyone on the list know anything about this? Nancy Halvorson Santa Fe, NM

    3. Hi Nancy, thanks for the reply. Yes, I would have covered only surnames of interest, as well! I studied will abstracts at the Mesa AZ LDS FHC several years ago. Found a couple of Margaret WILSONs but not mine. One I had hopes for, but she later married someone else, not my HUPP. Darn! I thought sure I would find her when I happened on a book of guardianships and such. No, she was not there! However, the marriage records I found in a microfilm show the guardianship of Benjamin WILLIAMS, at the time of her marriage.. Her father's name was not shown. Nor her mother's. Her mother may have been still living? But in those days a child needed a male guardian! I am not sure that it is important, but in the Bible records (I have the Bible) her name is shown as Margarett. Her nickname was Peggy. Thanks for the help. I will have to keep looking! In the marriage records I found yesterday or the day bef online, I found several WILSONs listed as married in that time period, including my Margaret. Her guardian is not shown, no parents are shown for any of these WILSON brides and grooms. I did find an Archibald WILSON in another record yesterday, and figure he is the father or relative at least of the Archibald W who m in 1791. Rather unusual name. 3. Joyce, I've come across Archibald W before. Let me look. It seems he was listed in the Court Records on-line at Rootsweb's Shenandoah County web-site. Let me look through my notes and I'll get back to you. Nancy At 30-08-03 16:56, you wrote: >Hi Nancy, thanks for the reply. Yes, I would have covered only surnames of >interest, as well!
