Eugene, I continued looking at the 1820 census, from about p. 162 on and I don't think I ever realized how disjointed it is. It looks like the census-taker ranged up and down the Luray Valley several times, picking up some people and skipping some till later?? But, I did happen to see that John Roy went from a titheable in 1809 to an estate in 1813 so I looked up his will and that tells a pretty good tale of where James and William lived. It says he gives his land under the Fort Mountain to James and that the land is next to William's. So, at least at that point they likely live on the west side of the South Fork, near the end of the Massanutten, someplace close to the Warren Co. airport. Thanks for showing me how strange 1820 census is. Tom "H. Eugene McInturff" wrote: > Thanks Tom. I suspecte that you're right in Elijah being near > Gooney. Great Tom.......I found in the McKay papers at Samuels library in Front Royal where Elijah Roy had, in 1837, four tracts of land totaling 998 acres on/near Flint Run........Eugene
