    1. [VASHENAN] PERSONAL PROPERTY TAX LIST-SHENANDOAH CO., VA
    2. Tom, I have the 97th Reg. (Shenandoah County, Personal Property Tax Lists) for the years 1782 through 1830. This takes up about three notebooks and I don't have all the pages for each year in all the years, as it was too large a job; however, I have the first page (A's) on most all the years so that I would have the original column titles. Since I am researching RITTER/RUTTER and RODGERS/ROGER family I have all the "R" names for the list where they appear. The first couple of years there is only one list per year. After that, as you know, there is a List A and a List B which has a commissioner assigned and the District would be named for that person. For example, Joseph Strickler could have List B one year and List A the next year; however, his District appears to be the same because the same people show up on his list. Every few years the District commissioner changes but that is how you have to ID the two lists. My family seems to be located southeast of Woodstock and that was Joseph Stricklers list. I have ALL the "Rs" for that list for ALL the years 1782 through 1830. Depending on the year, I may or may not have the "Rs" for the other list. There are a number of years that I have copied the entire year such as 1788 which is all one list and has no one assigned to it. John Williams, Clerk of the County signed it on the 18th day of August 1789. I have all of 1782; however some of the entries are hard to read. Anyhow, I have not had time to index all that; but I have a fair amount of information and would be glad to look up something as times permits. Chocy

    3. Chocy, Yeah, I found the same thing on 1782. I always wanted to index it but my eyes are no longer good enough to read that terribly faded writing. I'm slowly indexing 1793 now and I get eyestrain usually after about 40 minutes (It would have helped if John Marshall had used a word processor with Arial font!). I don't know much about the Rutters and Rogers. I see them from time to time and think they probably lived in upper Warren County, maybe near Browntown? There was also a Rogers family up in the Honeyville area of Page but I seem to remember they showed up later. So far as I know, all of Joseph Strickler's lists were for the 97th. I don't know why the "A" and "B" designations - probably something added by a clerk sometime. I don't know who did 1788. That's a list I've never used, except for a couple of look-ups. That might have been Tavener Beale; does it have any slaves listed by name? Tom Chocybrown@aol.com wrote: > Tom, > I have the 97th Reg.
