I have HAWKINS near New Market. A red flag went up when I saw the Pennybacker posting. Does anyone know of a link between the two names? Samuel Hawkins b. 1762 near New Market knew the ZANE that Zanesville, Ohio was named for, and in fact they both lived near each other on the Ohio River near what is now Wheeling. There are also Hawkins named Mounce. Samuel Hawkins was a blacksmith at about the age of 12. Perhaps he was Pennybacker's apprentice. Samuel's father was Joseph born abt. 1708, possibly in Md. Samuel is buried in Eaton, OH. I have a photograph of his gravemarker if anyone is interested. Rebecca James
