    2. Shirley, You may have this but thought I's pass it along in case you don't. "Shenandoah Valley Pioneers and Their Descendants" By T. K. Cartmell Page 26 "----------------The following named persons had surveys made them on the South Branch. Washington, say John COLLINS had settled in the Manor-near the Indian Village (North of sidte of Moorefield,) and that he and Mr. George Wm. Fairfax spent the night with COLLINS. This note also appears "James Rutledge was settled about seventy miles aboe mouth of South Branch, where they spent a night.------------------this note dated April, 1758. Thank you for the Pennsylvania RUTTER information. The RITTER/RETTER/RUTTERS came into the valley somewhere around 1747. A story says they landed in Philadelphia in the 1730's and lived in Lancaster Co., PA for awhile. Some I believe moved to Westmoreland Co., PA about the time ours came into the Shenandoah Valley. There is a story they were from Holland but I have not been able to find the link back before 1753. Other family members seem to have links to Maryland and think they may German. Thank you again for the article. Chocy
